My Mom and I were looking for a new (new to us) Chinese-American restaurant. Palace Cantonese surpassed all expectations. Every plate we had was delicious and food was hot. The service by Calvin was outstanding. We entered the restaurant and were the only ones during this late lunch time. We sat in the comfortable and cozy booth (firm for what my back needs). Right away, Calvin brought delicious hot tea and water. The Fried Won Ton, which is hard to find without meat, was perfectly fried, not soggy. The cup of egg drop soup was a generous portion, more like a medium bowl. The veggie egg rolls were large and tasty. The Chicken Szechuan, was like a kung pao chicken and very flavorful. I loved the touch from Calvin bringing extra peanuts without us asking. He also asked if we needed more tea even though our steel carafe was half full. At similar restaurants, I’ve not seen that service. The final touch was receiving 2 almond cookies (plus fortune cookies), which my Mom and I love. It’s my new favorite restaurant which I will be patronizing every time I’m in Chicago.

“Palace Cantonese is a hidden gem that deserves all the hype.” The Beef Egg Fu Young? Absolute perfection — fluffy, rich, and full of flavor in every bite. The Spicy Beef Fried Rice? Simply amazing… the kind of dish that keeps you coming back over and over. And don’t even get me started on the Veggie Egg Rolls — golden, crispy, and packed with fresh flavor. Every plate feels like comfort food done right, with that authentic Cantonese taste that hits both tradition and satisfaction. The portions are generous, the flavors bold, and the service makes you feel at home. This isn’t just dinner — it’s a food experience worth sharing. #TrueAuthenticOriginal #ChicagoEats #FoodieFinds #YeahYeahYeahDoIt #PalaceCantonese #OneChicagoMasterpiece

This little, tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant with a boarded up front window is incredible. I’ve eaten there probably 10 times now waiting to find something to complain about and besides the discomfort of my back in their booths I have nothing bad to say. Their food is incredible and consistent. The egg roll are top notch, the sweet sauce is delightful, the hot and sour soup is amazing and the won ton soup is tasty. The bbq ribs are so so good. Nice and tangy. Then the Beef and peapods never disappoints, the Mongolian Shrimp is just right and the Empress Chicken with pan fried noodles is scrumptious. There’s never anyone in there when my husband and I are there…I don’t know why. The food is great!!

Nice atmosphere for dining. While I was there, several "regular" customers came in and ordered their usual entrees. The service was very nice, perfectly timed to have a great lunch or evening out. This Cantonese style cooking is the kind I absolutely love -- it's the San Francisco Chinese food which is my absolute fav! Palace offered wonderful homemade eggrolls, the dark fried rice (known for in the Bay area) and their food has really nice flavor. Very tasty. The only reason I didn't give the food 5 stars is that their beef (just like other Chinese restaurants) is not a top cut, but it never is. I ordered Chop Suey with chicken, shrimp and beef and the portions are huge. I ordered the dinner and for another $3, you get soup, eggroll, fried rice and white (yes, both!) and the large entree. If you don't want the fried rice, they will give you egg foo yung, instead. Unbelievable portions at a nice, upscale place. A lovely serene restaurant with very good food. I hadn't found a good Chinese restaurant since I moved here in April 2023, so I didn't think there was one in Chicago. But Palace is a good one to try. I highly recommend it, and the menu is extensive. The parking is a little tricky so just...

Went out of the way to try this place after seeing great reviews. I should have heeded my instinct to flee when hit by an overwhelming litter box type of smell when entering. The whole place was dank and odious and furnishings looked as though they haven’t been refurbished or sealed in several decades. To get a barometer on the food we got sweet and sour which is a standard dish. I am not opposed to making your recipe unique, but the watery, yellow, blandly sweet sauce that was puddled on the bottom of the full plate, infecting the rice and managing to only coat a quarter of any piece of meat was not reminiscent of any sweet and sour I have encountered before and hope never to encounter again. The wait staff wasn’t bad but could be difficult to get the attention of. Based on the clientele I saw the, my guess is that the reviews are skewed by seniors who have a great memory of this place and whose tastebuds have become much less sensitive, as is normal during the aging process. I’d avoid this place if you are looking for a good spot. There was no redeeming quality and who knows what was going on with the cleanliness of...
