Fricker's Defiance — Restaurant in Noble Township

My wife and I moved to Defiance three months ago, and while the dining options in this small town are quite limited, we decided to stopped in at Fricker's for lunch today (11/22-2024) after trying several local options that were major disappointments.

We came in around 3PM, so it wasn't busy and the sign at the podium said "seat yourself." We chose a table just outside of the bar area. And since no one else was sitting there, it took a few minutes to get someone's attention. But after that, service was great.

After having a couple of draft beers, we ordered. My wife had the "Three For All" that included two cheeseburger sliders, fries and boneless chicken tenders. I had the "A-1-you Burger" with added bacon and minus the American cheese and a side of blue cheese dressing (for the burger) with wedge fries.

While I didn't try what my wife had, she raved about her food. My burger, on the other had, was cooked perfectly. Very tender and juicy. And it was huge! Best burger I've ever had from a "chain" restaurant.

Not sure what's up with the negative reviews of this place because the food and service were on point.

If there's anything negative, it might be the men's room. It was giving off Greyhound Bus station in Detroit kind of vibes. It could use a remodel.

Well I am disappointed yet again. I came here once and got cafeteria tasting wings with a rude server. That was my first experience but one rude server should not be a representative of the whole resturestant. I have actively avoided going here because of my first experience and because the prices were high for the quality of food they offer. Today 7-9-2018: I decided to give this restaurant another shot almost two years after my first experience hoping they improved. I ordered a burger medium rare and received an huge slab of meat(not an issue) that was overcooked beyond flavor(issue). I was hoping for a nice red meat flavor but what I got was a $8 burger that had less flavor then a McDonald's burger. I am not saying don't go to this restaurant, I am simply saying lower your expectations to a middle school cafeteria/hospital food. PS: if you look at my reviews tied to my Google account you can see I am a pretty understanding reviewer but this was two bad experiences in a row that simply comes down to lack of quality in the food. I will not be going back a third time. I tried this place years ago and the food was terrible, so I didn't go back until recently. I decided to try it again, since my husband likes other locations of this chain he has been to. We ordered take out. When we went to pick it up they said it would be a few more minutes so we waited. When it was a full 30 minutes past the order pick up time, my husband asked about the food. We were informed they had not even started it yet. To top it off, the lady up front was very rude and hateful every time she spoke. Even though we had been patient and nice the whole time. She was even rude to the older couple that were waiting to be seated, and they also had not said anything rude. We understand restaurants are short staffed, and over worked, like every place else, so we are always patient and nice, but that does not give workers a free pass to be snotty and rude. We went in the middle of the week, not during a rush, and there were not many people there. We cancelled the order, and went to another local restaurant, and we will not be giving this one a third chance.
