7/13/2022 Just a small update on my previous review. Eggs Up Grill has turned into my new breakfast staple when I go to downtown Norfolk/Ghent for a Sunday morning breakfast or brunch. I've been there 3 times now and have started working my way through the menu. The dining room is large however I prefer to sit outside where they have a great outdoor seating area which can accommodate any size of group. On visit #2 I had the Texas Farmhouse Omelet which was excellent. The omelet is filled with bacon, andouille sausage, mushrooms, cheese, jalapenos and topped with sausage gravy and chilies. On the side you get home fries and toast. Visit #3, I stuck with the omelet theme. This time I had the Patty-O-Sullivan Omelet which is filled with the Founders corned beef hash which is made with potatoes, onions and spices with Swiss cheese. As always on the side you get home fries and toast. Here's a expert tip. For either of the previously mentioned dishes, bring someone with you so they can drive your comatose self home. You're gonna take a nap. Service is great here. I've found the staff on all visits to be super friendly and accommodating. I can't be the only one because on every visit this place gets full. Personally I try to get there before 10am on a Sunday morning. After that you're going to be waiting for a seat. Until the next update! Have a great day! ------------------ 12-05-2021 Sorry, this is a week late, however, I wanted to report on my wonderful experience here. I had a great breakfast here last Sunday morning (11/28) with my friends Fred and Melissa. As I understand it, this is the 2nd weekend open for the Eggs Up Grill (not counting the soft open). I arrived at 9am for our meetup and was pleasantly surprised to see the place was already 2/3 full. The dining room is very large with windows facing the south that let the natural light of the sun brighten the whole room. There's a mixture of tables, booths and even a counter to suit any individual or groups seating need. Also, there is an outdoor dining area out front; however it wasn't in use during my visit. When I arrived at the table, the owner was speaking to my friend Fred, and apparently they've known each other for decades. He was very cordial and I was immediately offered coffee and received a menu and utensils from our server. After chatting up for a few minutes I ordered the 'Founders Hash & Eggs" breakfast. This dish includes the Founder's recipe 'corned beef hash' along with two eggs to order, toast (4 bread options) and then your choice of home fries or grits. I chose the home fries. Our food arrived at the table about 10 minutes later and I was glad we had decided to meet at 9am because at this point the place was full and there were several groups waiting to be seated. Breakfast was fantastic. Whatever their recipe is for the house corned beef hash, I like it! You can tell this isn't out of a can. It's excellent. I think I'd like to try out a whole breakfast dish around this with a couple of fried eggs on top in the future. I also really enjoyed the home fries. They were seasoned and tasted great with my over-easy eggs and sourdough toast. After breakfast we had another cup of coffee. All in all a great visit. I think we were there about 40 to 45 minutes. Since they were so busy we didn't want to keep anyone waiting a spot and decided to go. I'm looking forward to my next visit and working my way through their breakfast menu. Also of note, this location is open for breakfast and lunch only. I do not believe they plan to do dinner at this time. Give them a try. You can find them in the strip shops off 22st street. Just look across the Aldi's parking lot form 21st and you'll see them.

My husband and I dined in for a quick breakfast before heading back home. This would be our 2nd and last time visiting! Fair warning if the menu ever says that the meals are NOT refundable OR exchanged.. RUN! Why did we come back? The flight mimosas were good last time as was 1/2 of the meals. My husband ordered chicken and waffles the first time around and made note NOT to order it again. The chicken looks like they were frozen strips from your nearest grocery store thrown on top a waffle. We decided to give it another try…. 2nd experience… we ordered flights again because they were pretty decent the first time, unfortunately this time it was mostly juice, no bubbly. My husband didn’t finish his. . We ordered Steak and potatoes. NEVER order steak and potatoes. The steak resembled tuna steak … MAYBE! The texture, the flavor, the color !!! None of it resembled sirloin steak. The steak should have been pink in the middle for a medium steak, it was brown, like old blood. Like it had been sitting out. I had to ask if the eggs were cracked or folded, since the name of the restaurant is EGGS UP GRILL i would hope they’d be real not carton eggs. The waitress said cracked but you can look at that picture and make the judgement for yourself. We reached out to see if we could exchange it for something else, at that time we were informed that there are NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES.. so you want to force me to eat mystery meat? And pay for it! You’d think the manager would come over and check to see what we’re dissatisfied about. No, not until she was requested by my husband. At this time we’ve received our check. Once she comes over and actually looks at the food and receives feedback, at that moment she REACTIVELY offered to make adjustments to the bill. No thanks, we will pay for our meal and tip our waitress. We’ll never return and the people who I encouraged to visit your establishment, i will happily recant those invitations as well. Dear Manager, Customer service is a staple of your business and you have some major opportunities. It’s never about the money but the experience you’re willing to provide the people who contribute to paying your bills. Eventually the 1 stars will add up & at that point it will be too late to make adjustments. Typically the owner walks through to check on their guests with genuine intent. . This is a proactive approach that sets you apart from the rest and gives you an opportunity to elevate the experience of your clientele. Do better ! Sincerely, Your Fellow Business Owners

I wanted to let someone know about the very poor experience I had this morning from the Norfolk location. The food was not prepared properly or apportioned correctly. The food arrived cold due to a delivery issue that had nothing to do with the restaurant. I had the Grand Classic with bacon, sausage patties and double home fries. I added American cheese to the scrambled eggs. Unfortunately the home fries were not fried. They were basic boiled potatoes that had been heated in the pan. There was little searing, browning, crunch or even texture to them at all. This is to be my breakfast meal for 2 days. I had not planned on taking it home from work to have to finish cooking it. The $4.99 mocha was half empty. There were signs it had been spilled out of the top. It had little creaminess to it to even suggest they had added whipped cream. It was as if someone had put some chocolate syrup in a cup, dropped some coffee and milk in and called it a day. It wasn't even mixed up. If needed, they can always put it in a larger cup to ensure the customer receives a full serving. $5 for a half cup of hot chocolate with coffee is not well received. I also ordered lunch and picked the Berry Balsamic salad with grilled chicken. What arrived was grilled chicken with feta and some strawberries sitting on very few pieces of green. There was no salad. Even with the greens, feta and chicken, the small container wasn't even half full. I understand that this was ordered in the morning, but salad preparation as offered on the menu should be standardized. This was my first order with this company. I was not expecting it to be so poorly executed. It was not a good representation of their brand. Even if they were very busy, someone should have been checking food quality, quantity and packaging before it left the restaurant. I took pictures, but there was not a place on their site for pictures to be included. I hope someone will reach out and ask the restaurant to just take a moment with their to go orders to ensure the service is well executed and representative of the brand level one might expect as if you had ordered within the restaurant itself. These to go orders are a walking testimony to the quality of customer care they are prepared to deliver. The type of service provided today does not invite anyone to come to the restaurant and bring others or to order office catering for events from that establishment.

Do better !

Sincerely,

Your Fellow...

Let me start with the important stuff and then you can read it again in my review. DO NOT EAT HERE, DO NOT ORDER FOOD TOGO FROM HERE. THE FOOD IS TERRIBLE AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS EVEN WORSE. AND THIS IS COMING FROM A FORMER WAITRESS WITH 10 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. I have no words for my experience at this Norfolk Eggs Up Grill but Im going to do my best to find some. I ordered my food online for pick up, I wanted to add fruit to my chicken and a waffle and I have food allergies so I had questions. I called, the man I spoke to was very nice he stated he would make the changes even though I was unable to add it online. When I got there the young lady was nice but she seemed like she was new. There were several older female employees but they acted like I wasn't standing there. The young lady got my food and when I looked at the food I noticed there was cantaloupe in my fruit cup which I am allergic to. I let the lady know I was allergic and if I could get the red, white and blue fruit the man on the phone said I could have. She kindly went and let the other lady know. I noticed the lady instantly got an attitude and tossed the fruit to the cook and said can I get a berry cup. When the young lady came back I noticed there were no bananas. I asked the young lady who was the man I spoke to on the phone. She said she didn't know who I spoke to. I just shook my head and left. I only went to this restaurant because I wanted something other my usual Panara or Tropical Smoothie. I work in this area and I always saw the sign but never went in. The actual establishment is real nice inside. But the staff is rude and unprofessional, and the food is not good at all which was disappointing. Especially when there are other options as far as restaurants in the neighborhood that actually have good food. This was my first time eating here it will definitely be my last I have 100 coworkers and I am telling them and any and everybody I know not to go to this restaurant. They really should be ashamed if not for the awful food there serving at least for the horrible customer service they provide. This experience was just unbelievable and I didn't even sit down and eat I ordered online and picked up my food togo and even still they managed to provide terrible customer service. Im just glad I didn't have to tip anybody smh.

P.S. I made the mistake of reading the reviews after I ate here. I read most of them and the customers that gave 1 or 2 stars were pretty much on point with everything they wrote in...
