i get around -seriously i get around- in my travels - New York is the bagel capital of the world -new jersey a close second-believe it or not i consider myself a bagel expert- that said other than the epicenter of bagels-i've discovered a little place up in gilford nh called bayguls ( like seagulls) and recently a shop in north andover called house of bagels 2 -i almost always talk about everything other than the food first - so - i place a phone order ( a little test of mine ) the young lady answers the phone properly and takes my order -now the test part - she repeats my order to me A+- but for extra credit she makes sure i know the location- assuming bagels 1 is in another location-10 extra points - haha also approximately how long it will take - all without me asking- 10 more extra points-when i show up there is a line - thats a good sign- the menu is extensive- brief description- every type of bagel sandwich- breakfast and lunch- types of bagels - name it u get it - basically something for everyone- my order is perfect- exactly what i ordered- its done and ready when i get to the register-now the taste test - easily what i expect in a bagel shop- the little twist is - fir example- i like sesame seed - they coat top and bottom- oh my my what a delight inside soft - outside that perfect glazed crust-a very very close bagel to perfection- big test is they have the gold standard of bagels that is a must - bagel and locks -that makes me smile- why - because i dont have to drive 1000 miles to ny city - now this is something ive never done before- i dont tell anyone what yo do - but a small suggestion to ownership- walk ins after ordering should step aside- instead of waiting infront of register- like with me take a name and call it out when its ready- especially large orders - but to your defense- the line moved incredibly fast - so house of bagels 2 -is a must visit for anyone who appreciates a really good bagel - applause a whistle and a wink great...
Read moreFINALLY A GOOD BAGEL; I grew up in a Jewish neighborhood enjoying great NY / NJ style bagels. In the seventies I would go to Chelsea every Saturday morning to Katz's bagels, grab a dozen and chat with old Mr. Katz. I moved to the Merrimac Valley in the mid 80s I don't think I have had a really good bagel since. (Abrahams in Newburyport is not bad) I saw House of Bagels was opening soon. I was out for a drive with my wife the other day and I said let's go by and see if they are open. We we were hopeful, she has the bagel standard as I. She was used to Zeppes in Stoughton. We were not disappointed. These are GREAT bagels. They have a great variety, their prices are very reasonable, their sandwiches look awesome. I went back this morning to get some more and there was a line :). A great way to start the new year with a great...
Read moreI’ve tried this place 3 times. Each time my order has been wrong. The first two times the toaster was broken and they kept pushing the bagels through with a giant knife… Nobody inside speaks English so it can be really difficult to order and get your order correct. The floor is also pretty dirty. It’s upsetting because the bagels are actually decent but the sausages and eggs are not fresh and there’s quite a lot of cross contamination happening in there- using the same knife to cut different sandwiches you can tell it isn’t clean. I really wanted this place to be good but it just isn’t what you...
