Initial impression: From the destinated parking area you can see 2 signs on the door: "USE OTHER DOOR" and if you get close enough a small one that reads "We are OPEN" Cool. The door on this side of the restaurant has been replaced by a bit of MDFB (Medium density plywood) Using the drive though we saw a bit of drive-through overflow parking, which was empty. I park in this area. The seating area was a bit run down, but it was spotless! The soft drink fountain was clean, and it had about 6 choices from regular type dispensers. Not one of those cool touch screen custom drink kinds, but whatever. The sauce dispensers were spotless and well stocked. The napkin dispensers were fully stocked. I'm beginning to wonder whether anyone had been to this Arby's today, because it looked like it was still clean from the night shift before and stocked by the opening crew. I notice a poster advertising a few positions, both Management and Regular Crew. The restaurant was entirely empty, except 3 crew: A guy at the counter waiting for anyone to arrive A young lady dealing with the drive-through A younger guy in the kitchen (maybe it was his first day, it took nearly 15 minutes to get our 5 sandwiches, and when the other guy ordered, the counter guy went to prepare his food) Another customer walks in about 8 minutes after we've ordered, and the counter guy heads back, gloves up, and prepared this customer's meal. 2 minutes later, a drive through order comes in, I'm not sure who or how this order is prepped, bagged, and delivered through the window. It looks like from my visit that this Arby's isn't the most popular place to eat, and while the food was perfectly what I'd expected and the place was clean even if a bit run down, that this Arby's won't be able to keep their doors open much longer. Maybe if they replaced the broken door (it's very possible they've ordered it and it's just taking a while to arrive, but those signs by the broken door weren't made this week by the looks of things) they'd have more traffic and this place would begin to thrive, but maybe that's just me grasping at straws to keep those roast beef and cheddar sandwiches available without having to go to Covington, Redmond or Renton. The crew was neat and professional, and I'd like to see them keep their jobs, even if it's at an Arby's near an Outlet Mall. 2 stars for the "Walking into a horror movie" feeling after being initially put off by the door with the signs. UPDATE: Door fixed. Many more crew people. Busy with short waits for food. I have to believe that it was H. Jon Benjamin's Ad that's transformed this place to a place where they have meats for sandwiches. Thanks H. Jon Benjamin and thanks to all the crew who made my Arby's/TCBY...
Read moreNormally, I don't leave terrible reviews. Kevin, however, demands it. We come in, and admire a wonderful looking Arbie's and despite an empty restaurant, we have to wait for 3 minutes before any one acknowledge us. We see a 50ish lady with blond hair (I presume the manager) who flags over the villian of our story, Kevin. Kevin is a gentleman around 50 with an attitude issue. We tell him we would like a bourbon bbq steak sandwich, which he ignores while he fiddles around with the register. He apparently needed to be unlocked by the manager, which is fine. That happens, after all.
So, he gets unlocked and we tell him 1 Burger of our order... Then he asks us 2 seconds later what we would like (this being the first time he has looked or spoke to us). A member of my party tells him "we just told you...?" To which he replied "I need.... To punch it in... The computer."
Okay, so maybe he's got poor short term memory? But then when we ask for straight fries, he tells us that Arby's has NEVER (his emphasis, not mine) had straight fries. I did some research afterwards, and it seems Arbie's corporate did indeed discontinue their straight fries, but the rude condescending way he told us was really of putting, especially after getting there cold shoulder from him while we waited.
We (finally) finish placing our order with Kevin slowly (as if going so slow as an act of passive aggressiveness) and pay with cash. Kevin makes a point of holding up the bill to the light and stares at the security image for maybe 15 seconds... Then goes and asks the manager about the bill. She quickly waved him back to the register (as if she couldn't believe he was acting that way) where he finally cashed us out.
I later went up front to grab some sauce, and witnessed him treating other guests to the same cold reception.
I don't usually stop at the North Bend Arbie's, usually going to the Burger King, but we were looking for something different to start doing. Thanks up Passive Aggressive Kevin, that will not ever be the North Bend Arbie's.
PS the booth down at the end of the wall facing the drive through is seriously jacked up. The closer seat is loose and kept...
Read moreLooking at a few other reviews, they are the reason I felt compelled to add my two cents. One particularly bothered me.
It's a sad mindset to think that customers would leave a mess on the counters out of frustration. No, They do so out of lack of consideration for service workers and/or other people in general. They do so out of some entitlement complex. I've never once been frustrated with someone working a customer service job and thought "hey, i know what will make me less frustrated., I'll make their day even harder by making a big mess and then not clean up after myself and expect them to do so". Nope, not once has this been my go-to solution to my frustration. They (the employees) are there to help you get food when you are there. Whether there while traveling; too lazy to cook; or countless other reasons we eat out, the result is the same. This isn't a full service diner with a tipped employee taking your order. This is fast food and unless you tipped them very well to do so, clean up your own mess! Their job has lower pay than many other less stressful jobs, that many people couldn't handle. I doubt that listening to or cleaning up after jerks was anywhere in their job description.
As for my review.. Food was served hot, looked great and was served within a reasonable time frame. Employees were busy, but courteous and they had my food ready on time efficiently. My only complaint is that I was having issues ordering online. So not this particular Arby's Empathy goes a lot farther than taking out your frustration on your customer service assistant by making a mess. I wish high schools would all have students work for at least a month at a fast food restaurant, gas station etc. Perhaps it would change the perception and attitude some...
