Finally, great Thai food in the valley! This was my second time visiting Taan Thai Cookery. Last time I swooned over the Green Papaya Salad, but was a tiny bit disappointed that they didn't have fresh spring rolls. These restaurantures seem to value guest input, because today, they DID have fresh rolls! I got the Pad Se Ew with shrimp with a spice level of 2. I didn't taste actual heat at all, but there was a subtle flavor of heat. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, the abundance of basil leaves, and the wide noodles have that lovely, almost...what... I guess I could describe it as a bit bouncy. I have had Pad Se Ew at many restaurants. I certainly cannot swear to its authenticity, but it was as delicious as any I have ever had! My husband had the crispy chicken with cashews. He is a man of few words. I can tell you he thought it was "really good." Which is high praise indeed. When you go to the bathroom to wash your hands, glance over your shoulder towards the prep and kitchen area. This kind of clean only happens when a restaurant is scrubbed daily. Such a...
Read moreAbout a month ago we were looking for a place to eat on the way to Tacoma area so we stumbled upon this place. We ordered Tom kha, spring rolls, pineapple fried rice, beef pho and we all ate all our food because it was so delicious. Prices were very reasonable it was about $15 for soup and spring rolls. The staff were very very friendly. We went again yesterday because now it's officially one of our stops on the way to Tacoma.
On the down side: We were sitting by the window and I kept smelling chemicals from the nail salon right next door since the wall doesnt completely separate the two businesses. So that part wasn't pleasant but I'm sure they can work to change that because no one wants to smell nail salon chemicals when they are trying to eat food. 😁 Other than that, great place!
Update: 3/12/25 I came here once again on the way home. The food is still amazing. I always insist on stopping here and I've introduced many people to this place and they've all loved it! The staff was even friendlier this time if possible....
Read moreI have eaten here several times (always take out) as I work in the area. I have tried the chicken pad thai, pineapple fried rice, and cashew chicken (have tried each of these dishes 2 times each). Both experiences with the pad thai are that it is a bit bland. The spice level is accurate, however there really isn't much other flavor to it at all. I enjoyed the pineapple fried rice the first time, but the second time it was completely overpowered with the curry flavor, making it very one note. The cashew chicken has a lovely crunch to it, and I really enjoyed it my first time. The second time I ordered it, I did find it overly salty and sweet, as I have seen others mention in reviews. I do plan to try other menu items, however so far it hasn't been consistent enough for me to give more...
