Chuck E. Cheese — Restaurant in North Bergen

I’m not one to typically make reviews but hopefully others take my experience into consideration. I booked my daughter’s birthday party here and immediately walking in it felt like a sauna. I asked an employee if there’s air conditioning because it’s really hot and she responded “yes it just takes a little bit to kick on”. Which is fine, as long as it’ll cool down eventually. A while had passed and it was getting even hotter as the place got more crowded resulting in other guests of my party to start questioning the employees. Each person got a different response from different employees. “The guys are up in the ceiling getting it to turn on now” “it’s not working, they are fixing it” “oh it’s broken today so there won’t be air conditioning”. It was so hot we couldn’t enjoy the party. All of the toddlers didn’t even want to run around which shows how hot it was. They would run for 1 minute and start breathing heavy, downing water bottles. The adults were sweating just from sitting down. It was truthfully exhausting. Not only was the heat terrible but customer service was just as bad. We ran into some issues and had questions about some of the package inclusions and nobody seemed to understand us or try to fix our issue. Once again every employee told us something completely different. One guy for the enclosed area said we needed special wrist bands to get in and another worker was like “who told you that you don’t need a special wrist band”. It was just a mess, extremely disorganized. There was ice cream and drinks spilled all over the floor, nobody bothered to clean it up. Kids were out of control, my daughter got kicked in the head twice while standing still by our party table, probably wondering how, I truthfully don’t know lol. I watched a whole family snatch snacks that were supposed to be paid for and ran right out the door, trampling others trying to get into the place. While they were running out they let their toddler run in the street with cars coming so I had to grab a random toddler so they didn’t get hit by a car while the absent parents were still running with their stolen cotton candy. THIS PLACE WAS HORRIBLE!!! Came here with my kids to get out of the city and because we usually shop at the Walmart and BJ's when we come out here! Walking in the girl who stamped all of our hands did not greet us all she said was left hand please. In the Bronx where we live the workers are SO NICE AND FRIENDLY! They always interact with the kids and ask them what games are they going to place and to make sure they have lots of fun. Not here. Food was ok to say the least it was freezing in the place so the pizza got cold fast and it didn't have that signature CEC taste to it. Something was off. I got up to get my family drinks while the kids played. Figured I wouldn't need any help because I could get a clean tray from the front and carry the drinks myself. Wrong! I asked for a tray and the first time is was full of crumbs told them I didn't want it cause it was dirty second time she gave me a tray it had what looked like phlegm!! DISGUSTING!!!!!!! I was so disgusted I gave it back and walked away. Was not offered one apology or even a clean tray for that matter. Only good thing was when my kids finial my cashed in their tickets the attendant was very nice and threw in a few extra tickets for them. Other then that the place sucked. This CEC has improved so much with its new Manager and staff within the past year or so! I really like the new staff members and it really shows in that they care and are more attentive. Yes, this place still gets crazy on weekends because you live in a City! people [highly populated area!], so just have that expectation going in... more people and more parties on the weekends! If you don't want tons of people there, go during the week! Ha. Ha. We have had the lunch buffet there recently [Monday-Friday 11a-3p] and I really dig it. Such a great value! Unlimited pizza, basic salad, and an apple dessert pie, if I remember that last part correctly. I know it's a dessert pie, but I may be wrong on the flavor. It is generally plain, pepperoni, a veggie one, and usually one of their newer combinations that are put out for the lunch buffet and refilled as the pies get eaten. This is our local go to place, especially because it is the ONLY CEC I know that has a 'free' area set up other than the tunnels/slides. This location has a jungle gym type area with a small slide near a few other smaller rides. We love the music/songs, CEC dances, rides, games, food... it's...
