I was pretty impressed with the sandwiches here, and I do plan to perhaps try some more. My first go, I got the Chicken Parm hero, and the prosciutto hero. Regarding the quality of the sandwiches, I was impressed with both. The chicken parm was delicious; I heard they have house made mozzarella as well, and of course it was very good. Can’t go wrong with Mozzarella on any sandwich in my opinion. They gave a good amount of meat on both sandwiches, and it was a close call as to which one I would prefer. The bread was nice and soft as well, and I don't really have many complaints. Also shout out to them for adding a few free bags of cheetos-with me little things like that do not go unnoticed and it is much appreciated. I definitely recommend the chicken parm hero, it is better than any chicken parm sandwich I have had in my area, definitely worth the hike to give these guys a try. I ordered again, and got myself two of the GIANT subs. I had the chicken cutlet Mozzarella Sandwich, and the bacon egg and cheese hero. These were alright, my only gripe is that the Giant subs seemed to be the same size as the last regular heroes I ordered. I was expecting them to be pretty big, and even cut in 3 parts if necessary but that was not the case. Regarding the quality, the bacon egg and cheese sub was okay, but not enough protein on my sandwich to be considered a meal. I will say that this sub was significantly cheaper than the other, so I was not ready to throw a tantrum. Regarding the Chicken Mozzarella roasted red peppers sandwich, that one is definitely a repeat order for me. The chicken and house made mozzarella was quite good. If there was one thing I would add, its a drizzle of balsamic to go with the chicken and peppers. That would have been the only edit, and perhaps that is an option I could have asked for. Overall, I was satisfied with the product. Each sandwich was tasty, some better than others subjectively speaking, but I would go back. I am curious to see a side by side comparison of the Giant hero sandwiches, and the regular sized ones because they looked pretty similar to me. I will see about trying some of their other food, but would give this place a shot if you love sandwiches and are in the area. I can’t speak on the atmosphere since Iv only...
Read moreLet me tell you a story. An Irish boy from Long Island grew up around Italian delis and great food. He then moved to North Carolina where the only delis were terrible chain restaurants with terrible meats and cheeses. He spent 3 years there, deprived of a good sandwich, meatballs, chicken parm, soups, homemade mozzarella, espresso, cappuccino, and literally any other good Italian food.
He moves back to Queens after 3 years, but still can't find a decent deli in his neighborhood. For 9 months, the only sandwiches he had came from a bodega. He has nothing against bodega food, but it just wasn't cutting it.
So he moves to North Bergen and comes across Cuomo & Sons. A sign outside advertised homemade mozzarella and cured meats hung over the counter. He asks for his favorite sandwich; hot soppressata, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, and a little bit of balsamic vinegar. It's made by a lovely woman named Alexa and within minutes, he's sitting outside eating the sandwich.
I'm going to switch this into the first person because I want to be clear. This sandwich, after 4 years of not having it, brought me to tears. It felt nostalgic, but perfect. I cannot express to you how good this video made me feel. My mom had just passed away when I went to Cuomo & Sons for the first time, so I think I was desperately in need of something that tasted like home.
I go to this place once every couple weeks for lunch. The family that owns it is very friendly and great at suggesting new things. They have cheese and meat at the counter for you to try every day. Homemade cheeses, meats, hot food, sodas, everything you'd want from a real Italian deli. You're treated like family when you walk in. These people want you to enjoy your food. The only thing, the ONLY thing, I wish was different about this place was if it had a bakery. I know there's no way in hell that it would fit in that tiny space, but I don't think I'd ever leave it if it had one.
Go to this deli. Enjoy the food and people. You...
Read moreWe got two super sandwiches for an early dinner: The Milano, with fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, and roasted red peppers, and another one that I can't remember the name of, with sopressata, capicola, and fontina. Both were very good, served on a huge fresh Italian bread cut in half.
The owner was very nice and introduced himself to us. He offered some samples of some of their grilled and smoked meats, including the lamb, pulled pork, and slow smoked pork ribs. We ended up taking a large order of the ribs to go. They had a seafood salad and some other stuff that looked really good too.
There are shelves on one wall full of tons of imported Italian specialty foods, such as fancy/unusual pastas, wheat-free corn-flour spinach and ricotta ravioli, marinated artichokes, mushrooms, and mixed vegetables, different spreads, sauces, and antipasto, high quality tuna and anchovies, and various olive oils and balsamics. I got a jar of marinated triple mushroom mix to try as a pizza topping. The owner also has jars of handmade marinated shitake which I plan to try on another visit. I also want to try the handmade ricotta and mozzarella. The front had boxes of fresh cookies and imported fancy nougat, and there are cases full of different kinds of gelato and sorbet as well.
