My family are having a coming birthday dinner on the month November and my sisters send me over la Kausa to taste the food before we made the reservation. I went in today for the especial, which for my surprise they have a large selection. I ordered soup for the first course and chuletas a la parrilla with tostones for main course. The waitress repeated the order so fast that the only thing I heard was do you want some relish made of red onions finally chopped with cilantro with it. I said ok because two seconds prior, I told her what I want to eat. My soup was good, but when I got my main course, it was fish fillet a la plancha with tostones and a relish of red onion and cilantro marinated in lemon juice instead of my grilled pork chops with tostones. Another waitress brought me the plate and I told her that there was a mistake because I ordered the grilled pork chops. She took it back to the kitchen and the first waitress came and told me that I was wrong. When she was telling me all this, I just remembered that when she initially was confirming my order, she lost eye contact with me and was looking at the entrance door because someone was coming into the restaurant and she was doing it all over again. I told her that I that I didn’t ordered that, but I wasn’t going to discuss any further, and to bring back the fish. I ate my tostones with the relish and didn’t touched the fish because I am allergy to fish. Reason for I was really sure that I didn’t order the fish. The second waitress tried to fix the problem by offering something else or fix the bill. I told her not, thank you and to bring me the bill for what was serve. I payed the whole total and left tip because I don’t want they to think that I went over there to eat for free. I already made my mind not to go back for my sister birthday. We are around 17 of us and after many year living on 78 street, we never tried the food there and we never will. Now, we are going to El Eslabon for Peruvian food. The service is excellent and...
Read moreWe recently visited this nice family owned restaurant, and from the moment we walked in, you are greeted with a warm welcome.
We first order a pint of Chicha, which was very good and refreshing, and well balanced, unlike most places that make it too sour or too sweet. This was a good start, as I judge many Peruvian places by how they make their Chicha.
We had Papa La Huancaina as an appetizer - it was very good, creamy, only thing its the sauce wasn’t spicy, but you can add a bit of their spicy sauce that they provide to make it to your liking.
We ordered three main plates: Pollo A La Brasa with Salad and Mashed Potatoes - the chicken was fall-off-the-bone juicy, and their green sauce goes perfectly with Pollo a La Brasa. Their green is also very unique and different from most Peruvian restaurants. The mash potatoes were really good as well.
Seco De Res- There seco was definitely different than what I normally have at other places but in a good way, some places make the sauce thick and heavy, while their sauce was light but still very flavorful felt more like home style cooking.
Ceviche - Was also very different than what I normally have at other places, same here if you want it spicy as how I love my ceviche just ask for ricotto on the side and make it as spicy as you like, I could literally drink the juice from this ceviche.
Overall this place provided a great service, great food. I will definitely be back to try out different dishes, I would say they have a unique way to their style of cooking which make them standout from other Peruvian restaurants that I have tried, which provided a...
Read moreCame here on a whim on a Saturday since my friend and I were in the neighborhood. I've had Peruvian food maybe once or twice in my life so I was excited to try it again. It's located at the corner of a very busy street with a lot of other restaurants. The location is great because it's right at the corner of the park nearby which is super nice for a stroll after eating.
Our waitress was really nice and we waited maybe 5 minutes while a table freed up. There is no outdoor seating, so it's only indoor, but the tables are spaced really far apart which was great. There were many locals and was pretty packed for a Saturday night. One thing I enjoyed about the restaurant was that they had TVs that had a slideshow of the food on the menu. I wish more restaurants had this to be honest since you can see what the food looks like before ordering.
For food, we got the causa with tuna, pescado frito with avocado salad, lomo saltado, and chicha morada to drink. The causa was a nice appetizer although they do have bread too. The pescado frito was really nicely fried and the flavors were great. It was a big piece of fish for what it was priced at. I do wish the salad had some dressing, but they do bring some sauces on the side in the beginning so it wasn't that bad. The lomo saltado was pretty good. Huge portion with a side of rice. All in all, it was around $50 for two including tip. Pretty decent for the amount of food. I would definitely come back to try the Peruvian fried rice since it looked pretty...
