Arusuvai Chettinad Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in North Brunswick Township

Verdict: fantastic place for Non veg folks (value for money). Above average for veg folks (pricey).

Review:

Went to a lunch buffet. Non veg food in buffet were treated very good by my friends. Veg food was good and tasty (subjective?). I don't rate Indian food good easily since I cook most Indian food at home well and almost all the Indian restaurants I have been disappoint me in not doing something simple like rasam or fried rice to good taste. So this one was one of handful of exceptions.

Coming to variety: panneer chettinad (?) Was really good and different taste to many of panneer dishes I have had. Naan were soft (and not burnt!). Cheese dosa and chutney, sambar(thick and tangy). Plenty of desserts like halwa, Mysore Pak, payasam, jamoon, banana cake, carrot cake, ice cream! All of them were good. Jamoon was hot, crispy outer and soft core. Starters were good too, esp Gobi dish. There were bondas and medu vadas and were not bad too.

Now misses: (one missing star)

I hate vegetarian being treated lowly compared to carnivores. Charging same amount for both, only rice item for veg was tomato rice (seriously? I cook that only when I am bored of our don't feel like cooking) And there was goat biriyani for non veg that looked salivating. I didn't touch any rice items.

And, rasam was offered as soup for veg against chicken soup. You are running a chettinad restaurant FGS. (Potential customer losing choice if not for positives above)

Wait time was very high, about 40 mins. The guy was doing good job in seating people however the place is small for it's popularity. They didn't pick phone when we wanted to know wait time...

First time visited to Arusuvai North Brunswick NJ, we had one option for Banana leaf lunch.One Non veg meal price is 30$.This is very very expensive for these items served.Kids above age 6 price also 30$ .Kids below age 6 is 15$

I ate non veg lunch buffet with cost around 20$ At Arusuvai Somerville/Norristown branch before Corona lockdown. Serve 3 more items in all desert,curries, starter,Rotti. But this yesterday experience is very bad and disappointed.I don’t know, any management changed.

Items served in Banana leaf: Jackfruit Briyani—- there is no non veg briyani option.Only one Briyani served fir both Veg and non veg meal White rice,Served with Chicken curry,Rasam,Buttermilk….Not many non veg curries option in this meal.One chicken curry served(but taste is sweet curry) non veg Sides: Egg puff(I never saw this combo in Non Veg meals),Goat liver fry and chicken fry Poori served without any side curry!! Papad and Payasam Ginger chutney as pickle(Taste good)

Served items taste are good except chicken curry(sweet taste) and chicken fry(over fried, looks black color).Items served to the table but we can’t see what items are available and how it looks.

Serving people don’t know what food items need to serve in the sequence.Need to train them what items need to keep first in the Banana leaf.

Need to keep display what items are served in the menu in the digital display or Chalk board, so people can think and eat with price before go for this...

We arrived here on a Saturday afternoon at 1 pm and the place was packed and we had to wait only for few mins fortunately.

Food - the taste and quantity of the food was good. We ordered soup, chicken lollipop, chicken varuval, mutton kola, non-veg meals, biriyani (chicken and mutton), chicken kurma and parotta. All the items were good and no complaints. The serving size was also more than enough for each person. The non-veg meals was $30 but the servings are unlimited so is worth it if you have a good appetite.

Service - they welcomed us well but we ended up waiting almost 45 mins just to give the order. We thought it was only for us but apparently was the case for many others. Some were annoyed as you can imagine and someone on the other table began to yell at the waiter as they were waiting similar amount of time with their kids. Apparently someone did not show up to work is what they said but am not sure if that is true. Just be prepared to wait. Once they got to us things started moving fast and they served us well.

Place - the restaurant is small and there is less space as they have arranged the chairs and tables for max occupancy. May be large groups (more than 6) might have to wait longer.

Overall it was great experience, hoping they have better...
