Castaway Grill — Restaurant in North Carolina

Had to give it 1 star...but didn't want to. Save your money and your stomach! I've heard great, bad and really bad about castaways. I try a place 3 times. I never post anything like this. BUT I am.. Since it was a terrible experience every time! ....That was my last! Never again! Roaches crawling on my table and my plate! Rotten avocado and full center of an onion HIDDEN in my omelette. I showed and asked the waitress if she would eat this. She said no and apologized. Cashier apologized and said no charge. I held it together and didn't throw up. (This same cashier was extremely stressed the other 2 visits plus last time I heard the cook mocking and belittling drive through customer's and employees. Then glared at me when I genuinely smiled and encouraged him to hang in there.) I will stop there because its just unproffessional. I'm choosing to personally not support/pay to watch the bad attitudes with strife in the workplace, eye rolling, cursing, yelling, crying, drama with each other besides witnessing it with/towards multiple customers. StReSsFuL! Since I posted to social media... apparently I've offended some of their supporters. Oops, sorry... Been living in OIB for 10 yrs, vacationing and a home owner for 15-20. I believe I have a right to voice my experience and be a responsible consumer. I'm on the fence about calling the health department. In my opinion they need a professionally trained...

Looking at the pics, I'd say this place was very nice 4-6 years ago, but now, It's a bit run down. Arrived and nobody greeted us, there were several people waiting and they didn't know if we were supposed to seat ourselves or give a name in for a wait list. Ignored by the staff. One of the waitresses looked TOTALLY miserable! If she's sick give her the day to stay home. Very sad atmosphere. Finally we got clarification and they said just find a table. Put up a "Seat yourself" sign. So we found the table as soon as we could, and waited so long we cleared and cleaned the table ourselves Finally the waitress came, but the food took forever to come out and when it did it was underwhelming. How can you mess up eggs sunny side up with toast and breakfast potatoes? No toast, cold soggy potatoes (almost half mashed??). When we saw potatoes on the breakfast menu we assumed they would be like home fries. I don't understand how it gets 5 star reviews, maybe the locals don't mind poor service, so so food and long wait times. Maybe a few extra staffers would help. But as a visitor I would say skip this place and eat at...

I know it is off season. But we have been there in the off season. We usually eat breakfast at least once every time we go. It was not busy. Livermush not cooked through. Waitress stated that the cook said that is all the grill could do. ??? Two side order of grits would not melt the butter. Their hash browns which have always been excellent we're old, mushy and cold on the inside. And, to top it off they actually sent us out only four pieces of burnt toast that came with three of our four meals and charged us when we asked for more, only brought us two pieces. The one pancake that came was could. All the waitress would do was placate us and say that's the best the cook could do. 9:00 am and it was freezing in there. Even the wait staff were rubbing their hands and blowing into them. Went back to the beach house to eat after paying the bill, which was and has always been reasonable and still hungry. Been coming down here for near 20 years. And, since opening the Castaway was a top choice to eat. Hi Guess we will go further south when we decide to eat...
