Update December 1, 2023: The price has now far exceeded the quality of both the food and the dining experience. Over $40 for two people. The egg was cooked to death, the chicken was tough and flavorless, the biscuit dry and crumbly. The photo I posted is from when the store first opened. They don't even serve the home fries anymore.
You can get much better and more flavorful biscuit meals at this price point at either Vicious Biscuits or Biscuit Head, which have better everything including jelly bars. Hell, the Cajun filet biscuit with pimento cheese at Bojangles tastes better for that matter, and at a third of the price. This place needs to visit competitors and step up its game. Until then, I won't be coming back.
My original review from a few months after the restaurant opened : Cozy, fast-paced restaurant. Food quantities were generous and good quality. The vanilla maple latte was tasty. We tried the Goat Smash (you might want to ask for the jelly sauce on the side unless you don't mind getting sticky, they pour it all over), the Five-and-Dime (ditto with the gravy), and the home fries. The service was prompt and smooth despite the crowds, which I suspect will begin to thin significantly once the novelty wears off. $30 for two biscuits, home fries and a latte isn't really the best value for breakfast. I'd place the value point of these biscuits at $5-$6 tops, not the $8-$10 price that's currently being charged. Overall, we enjoyed the food but the prices will likely give us pause before returning. For $30 we could have two largr meals plus drinks at many full-service casual dining restaurants.
Update January 2019: lattes are served in tall disposable cups, which diminishes the enjoyment. Some large reusable latte mugs to enjoy in the dining room would be nice.
Also, if you're the manager here take note: check your ego. If you think customers don't notice the pompousity and arrogance of your interactions with your staff and especially with new hires/interviewees right there in the dining room, you're wrong. It's hard to enjoy a meal or want to support a business when a manager lords over those they supervise. Food...
Read moreMay 2024. I'm going to give this establishment the current rating it deserves. I will update it on my next visit one last time. It used to be my go-to and one I always proudly brought my out of town relatives to experience a taste of the south. 2 weekends ago, I came in for a noon lunch and I have to say, everything from when I ordered to when I left was a terrible experience. The register was untrained and after giving her my order apparently was just tapping the screen to tap cause I needed to give the whole order again. There was another lady next to her that realized she didn't do it right and had to do it again. This didn't really upset me but just was very confusing. Then they had to find us and ask what drinks we ordered again. They brought us the the 5 and dime on this big plate with no gravy. That made no sense and was laughable because I can tell you now their entire menu is carried by their sausage gravy. Then the tip of the iceberg was my chicken strips that they wrote a whole story about on their menu. COLD! Warm is one thing, maybe a little old BUT COLD to the touch???!!! Then they gave me sour cream instead of my honey mustard!... I was embarrassed in front of my cousin from Cali. I was embarrassed for this establishment. Maybe I was the fool who decided to get strips at a breakfast joint. The young staff behind the counter was untrained! The ONLY breath of fresh air was the incredibly nice older lady cleaning the windows. If they mess up my next breakfast order, I'll be done...
Read moreThey do not clean! Upon arrival we observed menus available for customers to pick up, look at and return during the process of ordering. Not one menu was ever taken and sanitized after each customer use. After ordering we had to pick the lesser of the dirty tables since there were no clean tables. Which could be understandable if it was busy, but it wasn't. The entire time we waited for our food and ate, not ONE table was ever sanitized after use. New customers had to take it upon themselves to grab napkins to clean a table to sit. During this time, at least one manager stood near and around the front door with a clip board and pen just watching people leave and new customers enter. Regardless of the COVID-19 situation, every table should be sanitized after each use. Since they are not keeping the "front of the house" (aka the dinning room) clean, just imagine how slack they are when it comes to cleaning "the back of the house" aka the kitchen. *To all food service business owners/managers, is it up to you to set the standards for your establishments, train your staff according (I cannot stress this enough, training is everything) and hold them accountable. As leaders, it is your responsibility to lead by example, hold people accountable, take responsibility for all faults and give credit to your staff for jobs done well. "Extreme ownership. Leaders must own everything in their world. There is no one else to blame." -...
