San Felipe Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in North Carolina

I wanted to love this place…it had a lot of potential. The only positive I really have is the cheese dip is good. When we arrived, there was a major cleaning chemical smell. I assumed a nearby table was just cleaned and the smell would dissipate. But it did not. They brought our cheese dip and that was the last time we saw our actual waiter for a long time, probably 40ish minutes? Someone else brought us my beef and cheese nachos, but with no beef. When I explained it was supposed to have beef, he took it back and dumped a ton of old greasy meat on it, making it pretty much inedible. They forgot my son’s chicken tenders and by the time I gave up on our waiter and asked a random person to look into it, the rest of us were done eating and my son had filled up on chips and cheese. It finally came, and he ate maybe 2 bites. Then we waited another half hour for our waiter to return with the ticket. It was my oldest son’s birthday and they did do a good job singing to him and even involving my youngest. But that and the cheese dip were really the only good pieces of the experience. Maybe just an off night but...

Oh so yummy! There were so many things on the menu that sounded good (all slightly different than I’m used to on a Mexican restaurant menu), it was hard to decide. I went with a classic, the good ole steak chimichanga. Oh my word! The fried shell was so flaky and tasty! It had fried onions and peppers inside and dressed with sour cream and chipotle sauce (not blobs, but properly drizzled). The salsa and queso dip are delicious as well.

Second time ordered out. With 4 months in between orders. Both times, the person taking to go orders doesnt double check orders and is quick to get you off the phone. I ask for a small queso. They give me the appetizer size and told me I should’ve clarified ‘small’. Which I did but I felt the need to point out that he should maybe ask instead of assuming. Quesadilla’s r over priced for a slab of meat and very little cheese. Both times they havent cut my quesadilla, forcing me to pick it up like a wet burrito…. Dont...
