I got assigned cake duty somewhat last minute for my mom’s birthday. I haven’t felt the cakes I’ve bought from different places in the last few years ended up being all that tasty or worth the cost so I did another search for “cakes near me.” Of note, I had been wanting to try desserts from this place before now but I’m not a frequent dessert eater….anyway, when I saw their reviews were so high and liked the website during my last minute effort to find a bakery near me, I decided to give them a call. They were so kind and worked with me to get a cake done on time, both when we spoke over the phone and when I went to place the order. My mom is very picky about her icing, so having cake duty is always stressful 😋 Y’all, I was amazed at how tall and elegant the cake was when I arrived to pick it up (I picked the medium size and boy can I say the smallest size would have been plenty…but now we have more leftovers so I am glad I sized up 😁). Upon first bite, the flavor met the rest of my hopes…very moist and clearly baked by someone who knows good ingredients! The cake as a whole is very rich but in a way that feels light; the icing is superb, and both the filling and the actual cake are flavorful and decadent. I can assure you the white almond cake with buttercream icing and raspberry filling is a smash hit in my house and we have declared this bakery will be our new go to for cakes and assorted desserts!! From the excellent service to the amazing quality (I picked up a few other items when I placed my order from their display and those were well received too), I will be back! Sugar Crystals saved moms birthday!

We are from MA on a special birthday weekend trip for my mother whose favorite cake is German chocolate cake. We searched high and low for German chocolate cake around Carolina beach and had no luck. After almost crossing a ferry and driving over an hour for what would have been a cake that could have fed half of our family- we luckily came across Sugar Crystals who who were not only open on a Sunday… BUT able to make a special order cake for my mom in less than 24 hours and somehow only 20 min down the road from Carolina Beach! The women at “Shugs” were so friendly and heartwarming, made us vacationers feel right at home. The cake was GORGEOUS, so well made, you can tell a lot of love goes into their products. “Shugs” ended up being a one stop shop as they also had 2 of my moms other favorite holiday cookies “snowballs” and coconut macarons.

Well, after our crazy search to find the “PERFECT cake” I was nervous to see what the family of tough critics thought. I didn’t hear one critique out of any of those lovable masshole’s mouths! In fact they all gave many a “mmmmm” and a “wow, great find!” And “ I think this may be the best GCC we’ve ever had” “that was actually really freaking good”. (I want you to know this is coming from a family that has had nothing but GCC for every bday and for the last 14ish years).

We can’t thank y’all...

Where do I start?! We are on a weekend trip for my daughter’s sweet 16. I looked at two grocery stores, and was disappointed to find nothing.

My best friend checked google for other options. She found Sugar Crystals Baking Co. So, we went in, and we were greeted…the place was immaculate and I immediately felt the calmness and love in the place!

We showed up a hour and a half til closing time…and still…these folks treated us like the first customers of the day! the owner, Crystal…she is the salt of the Earth, let me tell you!! Her staff were SO HELPFUL! When they were sharing my options with me, and nothing sounded right, I shared my vision…they took it and ran. They went above and beyond to bring my vision to life at the last minute. They literally poured their hearts into making the perfect cake for our little family this weekend. I left in tears…OF JOY!

Oh…and the taste…by far one of the best cakes we have ever had! We ended up getting the cake, a key lime pie, buck-eyes, banana bread, and cake pops…and I’m telling you I recommend them all…you’re not gonna get anything bad...
