My experience with them got sour even before i could try their food. We were on a trip back from Orlando and stayed in Charleston for couple of days, as we had out parents with us we thought to book a hotel which is near to an Indian restaurant. As soon as we checked into the hotel we were hungry and called BBIR to order couple of biryanis for to go. It was not a pleasant experience on phone with them. They wanted my card number and details to even place the order. When i said i don't want to give my card details and I'll play once i reach there (as we usually do while picking up food), they said it's their policy to get card details before order. I was already unhappy till this point, but considering our situation, i said Ok I'll pay in cash once i reach there. To this, the guy on phone rudely said that ok, then you come here and place the order. I again asked, will you keep my order ready by then and he said no, once you reach here, pay for your order then we'll start preparing food. Because of their rude behavior on phone, Me and my wife were so pissed off till this point that we closed the call and didn't order from them.
I have never seen such policy anywhere. You order the food on phone, pick up or delivery, so you can save your time. Restaurants take your phone number and name to track you in case you place a bogus order, which is understandable but you have to have some sense of respect and belief in your customer when you are in a hotel/restaurant business. Even if it's their policy they could have been more nice in their response on phone.
Can't comment on their food as I couldn't reach till that point. We then ordered food from Taste of India, which was 10 mins far from BBIR and as expected, the lady took our order ready by the time we reached there and didn't ask for any card...
Read moreI have seen this place for years, but hubby is not into Indian food so I never got any. This weekend I treated myself to a feast, and I was not disappointed. The mixed appetizers were mostly a bunch of fried stuff: bell pepper strips, onion florets, little patties I suspect we're chickpea-based, balls of something, and 1 big puff that was stuffed with something. The puff was the best, the rest rather underwhelming. That is the only part of my order that was less than stellar. Now to the raves:
The butter chicken is perfect for people who might be new to Indian food. Not spicy, not overly curried, so tender and just beautiful.
The chicken vindaloo ordered medium-spicy was my favorite! Definitely a kick, even spiceheads may stop there. Again, chicken so tender and just packed with flavor!
The naan both butter and garlic were fresh and fluffy, perfect for scooping up the Phav Baji, which disappeared first. It's a delicious appetizer and quite filling. It came with split rolls but I liked it better with the naan.
The Masala tea was basically unsweetened hot Chai, and served with 3 sugar packets. 2 were sufficient. It was the perfect accompaniment to this highly-spiced and delectable meal. I just finished the butter chicken for dinner, and the last of the vindaloo will be my work lunch tomorrow. I'll absolutely be ordering again, hubby can fend...
Read moreI went there on Friday during the lunch bufffet hour. Naans served to the table was good along with that a plate of iceberg lettuce and tomatoes were served as salad, which was not necessary. At 12.30 PM the chat station was almost empty not refilled for a while. There was a Karela Bhaji (Bitter Gourd stir fry), it was labelled as Pav Bhaji, it was simply wrong. To an Indian palate it was tasty but Karela being bitter was very much an acquired taste most of the non-Indian people did not simply touched it and wasted on their plate, putting Karela in the menu was a big mistake. The rice was dry and under cooked. The tandoori chicken was not marinated before hand and it was bland. They were burnt as well to an unacceptable limit. As the price of the buffet is higher than the neighboring Bombay Indian Restaurant, I expected lamb or goat curry, which the other place has.Overall the cooking was just OK but fixing these small things can greatly improve the restaurant. There was no dessert like Gulab Jamun or Rasmalai which could be a nice addition. Hope the management read this review and make necessary arrangements to make it a...
