I first heard the name for the brand known as Scimeca’s when I noticed the Italian grocery store and sandwich shop called “Scimeca’s Market & Deli” has opened up shop in the Kansas City, Missouri suburb of North Kansas City, Missouri. There is also another business called “Scimeca’s Famous Sausage Company”, which is a brand that specializes in Italian sausages, Italian-style meatballs, Bratwurst sausages, chicken parmesan, Italian steak, sauces used on Italian foods, salad dressings, and more. The first time I ever eaten products from Scimeca’s was when my family went to a food vendor stand at Zona Rosa’s Festa Italiana festival that sold Scimeca’s Italian sausage sandwiches and a lemonade brand called SugarDaddy’s Lemonade back in June 2022, which was the very first time I tried one of the Italian sausage sandwiches and flavored lemonade. The only time that I visited Scimeca’s Market & Deli in North Kansas City, Missouri was back in August 2022.
The local brand for Scimeca’s Italian Sausage was founded in the year of 1935 by Fillipo Scimeca and his son, Frank “Chico” Scimeca. Following his service to the U.S. Army Air Corps as a member of the 24th Fighter Central Squadron in WWII, Frank "Chico" Scimeca opened Scimeca's Market in 1935. Working alongside his father, Fillipo, and brother Louis, Scimeca's Market quickly gained a reputation in Kansas City for providing fresh and specialty groceries to families around the Kansas City metropolitan area. Noticing a need to expand on the Scimeca's Italian Sausage tradition of excellence, Chico Scimeca’s son, Phil, and grandson, Frank, have been supplying Kansas City and surrounding markets through their USDA approved facility for more than 20 years. Scimeca's Italian Sausage Company has demonstrated its own commitment to serving customers and their families around the Kansas City area, ensuring the original, tasty recipes since 1935 are produced with the same integrity ingredients. Scimeca's has been an industry leader in providing gluten-free products for over 100 years, perfecting this commitment to Kansas City families, well in advance of their competition. Scimeca’s offers quality ingredients for every palette while remaining loyal to our authentic family recipes, from their tables to their customers’ tables. The family of products from Scimeca’s can be found at local neighborhood markets, and select restaurants around the Kansas City metropolitan area. Customers can search for Scimeca’s grilled Italian Sausage sandwiches at local festivals and fairs in the Kansas City metropolitan area as well. Besides Italian sausages, Scimeca’s also sells chorizo, andouille, and breakfast sausages too.
At Scimeca’s Market & Deli in North Kansas City, Missouri, the place is more than a unique Italian market and deli, it’s one of Kansas City's well known culinary destinations. Once customers and people who are new to the Kansas City try products from Scimeca’s, they will be be a fan of Scimeca’s delicious deli selections, family of sausages, homemade sides, specialty cheeses and much, much more products sold at Scimeca’s Market & Deli. Customers can purchase packaged Italian sausages, breaded chicken, cheeses, canned and pickled vegetables, cooking oils, desserts, spices, pasta noodles and sauces, salad dressings, salsas and relishes made from pickled vegetables, and more stuff as well. There is also a deli counter with sandwich meats, cheeses, mixed olive salads, and deli-style side dishes by the pound. The restaurant menu of Scimeca’s features all kinds of sandwiches, daily specials, salads, sampler platters, and even sampler platters. When I visited Scimeca’s Market & Deli located in August 2022, I ordered the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich with a bag of potato chips on the side. I have to say that the food that I ordered and the service at Scimeca’s Market and Deli was excellent. If customers are looking for an Italian deli based on a popular brand of Italian sausage in Kansas City, I would say that Scimeca’s Market & Deli is the place to...
Read moreFor the third time, we tried to have lunch at Tupelo Joe's. Not open again. It seems like it's just one thing after another.
So driving away from there we noticed Scimeca's - which has been on our list to try for awhile. So today was the day.
It was almost 3 when we arrived and they close at 4 on Friday. We asked Gino behind the counter what the "go to" sandwiches are. He first mentioned the cheese lasagna special (it comes with your choice of meat side) which is made from a family recipe that goes back to 1935. After our lunch, I circled back and got an order of lasagna and meatballs to take home for my wife's dinner.
His other recommendations were the 1935 Italian Classic (which I got) and Phil's Meatball Sub. My buddy got the Reuben which Gino said was popular as well. We sat down at one of the high top tables and took in the sights of the spotless deli lined with Italian staples and treats of all kinds.
The sandwiches came out quickly and both were outstanding. The Reuben was hot and delicious, served on a marble rye hoagie. The Italian Classic has salami, sandwich pepperoni, and hot ham, with provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, banana peppers and Italian dressing. The Italian hoagie had just the right amount of crunch to the exterior and pillowy interior.
I learned that the indoor seating has been expanded fairly recently. Since the sandwiches are great and reasonably priced, I imagine this place fills up quickly around lunch.
I guess we can thank Tupelo Joe's for being closed. Otherwise we'd have missed out on this Italian gem.
The same thing happened the last time we tried to eat at Tupelo Joe's. A water main break had shut them down so we tried out F325 BBQ as a backup. Stunningly good food there and super...
Read moreI can appreciate a small business. My family and I found the authentic Scimeca’s store on a whim two weeks ago; I am the biggest Scimeca sausage fan. The sausage was not char grilled like you may have experienced at all typical stand and is frozen from the factory. Unfortunately, the lunch choices that I chose did not hit the spot for me — nothing wrong with the food, but also nothing that stood out and it (unexpectedly) did not meet the standard that I have come to know from Scimeca’s. It could be that I’m just picky as a result of my Italian heritage.
I’m very sad to write this with you as I don’t want knock a small business, but unfortunately, my family and I won’t be seeking out the store again. I’m certainly had a lot going on that day and you never know what people are experiencing in their personal lives; however, the service was mediocre. I did confirm that I was ordering from the owner, as she stated that her brother runs the factory.
I wish all the best to you and your family and I hope that if I ever visit the store again, I can rewrite this with...
