Their “Wick Fig” sandwich ($16) was money! Crispy/light bread, fresh turkey, amazing fig spread and gooey cheese. Great taste! Although, I do wish they put more bacon in it, I only tasted it in 2 bites. Not the biggest sandwich as well, it was actually really small for $16, but the quality/taste helps. I bought a small black regular coffee for $3 to see if the quality was actually good - and luckily it was. They have a few big goods like homemade cookies and scones, which looked really good. However, what stood out here most of all was the service. The staff was incredibly friendly and everyone had a nice vibe. My sandwich came out quick even though it was busy at Saturday lunchtime. I can see why there is a buzz about this place.

Very good sandwiches, I had the Wick Fig and my wife had the Gilbert Stewart. Mine: for my taste buds was overly sweet, way too much fig spread, which overpowered the cheese and bacon to the point I had to relook at the menu to ensure it was supposed to be there. Still it was good, just not great for me. I had it on the multigrain bread, which was very good. I had also sampled my wife’s GS, which was actually much better than mine, because it wasn’t so sweet. Overall I would return and order differently. There’s no table service, so giving a service score is actually non applicable. Parking is free on street and I believe there is a back side parking lot close by

I had an absolutely phenomenal experience at Shayna’s Place in Rhode Island. The food was exceptional — fresh, flavorful, and made with real care. Everything I tried was of outstanding quality and very reasonably priced. What really made the visit special was the atmosphere and the people. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the owner Matthew went above and beyond to make sure everyone felt at home. He shared great recommendations for things to do in the area and had such a warm, personal approach that truly set this place apart. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by Shayna’s Place — you won’t be disappointed!

My mom, who lives nearby, and I have wanted to try this place for a long time. Time off from work due to injury freed up some time, so I took her here for lunch on a recent weekday.

Shayna's Place is pefectly located in downtown historic Wickford, with plenty of parking, either on street, or in a nearby municipal (free) lot. For the size of the restaurant, there is a decent number of tables inside, and a few sidewalk tables. My mother especially admired the custom-built bar, with wainscoting and black walnut top. We even got to meet and talk with the owner (who is a former builder, and built that bar himself).

Ambiance is top-notch, and there is always mood-setting music playing. We were told by an employee that much of the music is chosen by the owner's daughter, Shayna, who will even go so far as to tailor the music to the tastes of whichever employees happen to be working on any given day. On our first visit, we were listening to song covers played on classical guitar. Speaking of employees, we found each employee to be extremely polite and cheerful (a rarity these days).

Being an Italian grinder afficionado, I just had to try the Vinny's Kitchen, which is Shayna's rendition of the sandwich, and voted best Italian grinder in Rhode Island by USA Today. If you read some of my other Yelp reviews, I have two favorite places for Italian grinders. Well, after eating Shayna's, I now have three favorite places for Italian grinders. All three are excellent, with fresh ingredients, yet different with their own nuances. Shayna's has the advantage, though, since they're closest to me, and have way better ambiance than my other two sandwich spots. So, yeah, for me, they have the best Italian grinder!

Now that we have that out of the way, their fresh lemonade, and chocolate chunk cookies, were also excellent. So, I noticed other reviewers complained about the prices. True, they're not cheap. But, to me, they're not outrageous. There's two things to consider: First, there's this thing called inflation. Second, it's worth paying a premium for the ambiance. The ambiance was so good, in fact, that my mom wanted to go back a few days later, for coffee, and our second experience there was just as uplifting...

Update 1/18/2021: Prices are high and they’ve now reduced the size of hot specialty beverages. Now you get a small latte for the price of a large.

Update 7/6/19: Unfortunately I need to knock Shayna’s down to 4 stars for 2 big reasons. First of all, prices have gone up multiple times in the past year to the point where you’d think you were in the heart of NYC. If I get a large iced coffee and a bagel with butter it ends up costing me $7. I just don’t think that’s a fair price for Wickford, RI. I get that they brew small batch coffee roasted both in NY and RI and the coffee prices may have gone up, but that’s the time you start looking for a new coffee provider, not taking every penny from your customer. Secondly, the WiFi is no longer reliable. 9 out of 10 time I am flat out unable to connect on any of my devices; I usually have at least 2 iOS devices and a windows laptop. The only time I can connect is if they reset the router. This prevents me from being able to get any work done thus causing me to seek out a new cafe.

Bottom line, between the price hikes and the unreliable internet connection, I will no longer be going by every week.

—————————————-

My favorite place in Rhode Island! Come for a coffee, stay for the food! Everything that they serve in Shayna's is top notch. The coffee is locally roasted in Providence, the produce is fresh, and most all of the treats (Allie's Donuts excluded) are made in house daily.

All of the employees are beyond nice and if you're lucky enough to be there when Shayna is helping out, she is the sweetest!

Can't wait for the ice cream bar...
