First the good- the hostess was kind. The atmosphere is special. There is a lot of potential for this restaurant to be wonderful again. It is just not clean. The floor has a greasy feel that has been there for years but is definitely worse and if you have to walk with a cane or have mobility issues, you are at risk of slipping because the floor is slick with a greasy film. I think if they got the floor professionally cleaned this would help fix this immediately but it definitely needs to be done for safety and cleanliness and maintained. My order was 6 orders of onion soup and 2 orders of teriyaki chicken. The hostess informed me when I arrived they had onion soup but it was from the day before- if I wanted that or the fresh miso soup which I said no I prefer the fresh soup. I appreciate that she asked instead of just giving me soup that was kept overnight. I paid for the food, provided a generous tip, tried the food when I got home and was unable to eat any of it. The chicken was hard as pellets covered in sauce- could not finish the first bite. In thinking about the soup being kept overnight, I went ahead and tossed the rest. In this economy I cannot waste money. I also rarely leave a negative review for any business because I believe we all have bad days but there were too many things that could not be overlooked. Details matter and if the floors are not clean and the soup is left out overnight, what else is not being done? It would be amazing to see Kanpai make a comeback but till then we will have to go elsewhere. I wish I could leave a more positive review and I hope improvements...
Read moreThis was genuinely the worst food I have ever had. And I am not putting that lightly. If I could give 0 stars I would. I am not a person who writes bad reviews because I usually just never see a point, but this is the one exception. I could probably write a whole novel on how bad of an experience my friends and I had, but I'll shorten it up a bit. It took forever for anyone to even ask us for our drinks. Our food was all brought out at completely different times. The filet mignon was terrible. The chicken was terrible. The rice was terrible. The deep fried sushi we got was hardly deep fried and had the worst consistency. It immediately made me sick after one bite. The shrimp in mine was awful. It just all tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. The only good thing I ate was the ginger salad. The "yum yum" sauce was given to us in a pure leaf brewed tea bottle, which was absolutely baffling. It looked nothing like yum yum sauce. We of course did not plan on tipping considering the horrendous food and the slow service. But come to find out, they charge you 15% gratuity anyways. Even after all of this, I wasn't going to bother leaving a review. It's what i've been through TODAY that is even worse. I've gotten sick from food before, but nothing like this. Ive had the worse nausea of my life. I have been extremely light headed and cannot get out of bed, except to throw up. Moral of the story, look at reviews before eating out at...
Read moreI would not recommend this restaurant to anybody in Little Rock, no matter how hungry you are. We waited about fifteen minutes to be handed a menu, and the entire experience just went downhill from there. The fried sushi we ordered tasted like it was microwaved, sat out for ten minutes, and then served to us. I ordered the Filet Mignon Hibachi and was repulsed at what I saw laying on my plate. I am not sure what mystery meat they decided to serve me, but I was horrified. The vegetables on my plate looked dejected, as if they were also disappointed. After asking for yum yum sauce, we were handed a used iced tea bottle filled with something that was most definitely not yummy. It did not smell, taste, or even look like yum yum sauce. I just cannot believe food could look and taste this bad. On top of that, you are charged gratuity, no matter how bad the service/food is. I paid over thirty dollars for something that was not worth it. I am not one to complain because I understand how the food service industry can be, but if you read other reviews, you will understand this was not a one time thing. I wish I could forget we ever came here, but I fear it will haunt...
