I just ate here the brisket was excellent. Moist and tender and fell apart, hushpippies were out of this world and I would say the same thing about the mac and the stew!
Service sucked though and was the only disappointing experience of my time here.
I asked my server if they served beer because on the menu it simply says to ask your server. She said yes and then I asked if they had any draft specials. And a second server came up without introduction and said they were on the back of the menus and walked away with the other server who was a trainee I'm assuming.
When I turned the menu around where she had directed me I noticed it was to the lunch specials that she was actually referring to. There is no beer listed on the menu.
So when she returned I asked again if they served beer and she said yes and then I asked if they had any beer specials and she said no.
I can understand why she thought that is what I was asking for because it was noon and because she wasnt the person I was talking to initially and she clearly didn't even hear what I had asked.
The server who I had originally asked if there were any specials, the server who brought me my drink the person who had heard clearly what I had asked, acted as if I hadn't even asked her anything and the remainder of my visit was awkward.
they came back a few minutes later together to take my order and then delivered it promptly the brisket was exceptional and it was hot and delicious especially the hush puppies and cinnamon butter.
If anything has been wrong with my order neither of my two servers would have known because they never came to see how I was doing not once!
After I finished my meal I sat on my phone and caught up on my emails until finally the server came around with my check. I dont believe in asking for the check.
While I was waiting I thought of my days as a server and thought that this would have been the perfect opportunity for me to experience walking out on a check. But the food was simply delicious and as much as I enjoyed the food it wouldn't have been right to not pay for it.
I had considered while I was waiting to just not tip my servers but instead I just decided not to leave my usual generous tip.
This was my first stop after a long drive to get to myrtle beach. And I know this place must serve a lot of travelers food. And the food was amazing but my experience wasnt anything special I could have spent half that at chic filet and it would have been " my pleasure " after every thank you. And let me tell you that experience that comes with a damn good lemonade surely will have an impact on someone's day
My servers didn't ever ask how my food was not after it was delivered and not even when checking out and it was just me and the server standing at the register without words waiting for the head server to ring me out.
But please dont forget that every patron, every guest is having an experience in your place of buissness This was my first visit to myrtle beach bar-b-que house and I dont think it will be as good but next time I will try...
Read moreMixed Feelings on My Visit to Bar-B-Que House
During my recent visit to Bar-B-Que House, I was eager to indulge in a hearty BBQ meal, having ordered a slab of ribs, pulled pork, and brisket, which amounted to a lot of money. My anticipation was heightened by the selection of sauces available, which, to my delight, were the highlight of the meal. I sampled all four varieties offered and found them to be incredibly flavorful and arguably the best sauces I've ever had.
However, my enthusiasm declined considerably when it came to the meats themselves. Despite my willingness to invest in quality food, the meats I received were disappointingly dry, just like the other reviewers had mentioned in reference to the dryness. The ribs were so parched and dehydrated, that removing the membrane produced a crinkling sound, reminiscent of dry paper being torn away, underscoring the lack of essential moisture. If the meat is so dry that it compromises the dining experience, it's better to discard it and start anew rather than serve an inferior product to the customer. No rub was added to the meats, further contributing to their blandness. The lack of moisture made it challenging to enjoy them without the aid of water to help swallow. Furthermore, the anticipated smoky flavor that is quintessential to BBQ was notably absent, leaving the meats rather bland without the addition of the excellent sauces. Unfortunately, the experience also left me with a sour stomach, which was disappointing.
The service at Bar-B-Que House, however, was impeccable. The staff was friendly and welcoming, contributing to an enjoyable atmosphere. It's evident that the restaurant excels in customer service and ambiance, making it a pleasant place to dine in or carry out.
I've observed from previous customer reviews that the owner's responses often come across as negative, attacking, and defensive, making customers feel bad rather than addressing the core issues. This approach of denying, justifying, and looking for excuses rather than focusing on constructive solutions detracts from the overall experience. Furthermore, the owner attacks the reviewers in a childlike manner, further undermining the restaurant's credibility. Should this happen to me as well, I will reconsider my rating, potentially dropping it from a 2 to a 1.
As someone who appreciates both great and not-so-great BBQ, it pains me to say that Bar-B-Que House did not meet my expectations based on this experience. The dryness and lack of flavor in the meats were significant drawbacks, despite the exceptional quality of the sauces and the service.
I had contemplated rating my experience as a 1 but decided on a 2, acknowledging the superb sauces and the staff's friendliness. While it's challenging to leave such a review for a place with such friendly, pleasant, and warm service, I believe it's important for future patrons to have a realistic set of expectations. My hope was to celebrate a fantastic BBQ meal, but unfortunately, the meats did not live up to that...
Read moreDrove by this place many times over the last 18 years vacationing in NMB and finally decided to give it a try. Big mistake. The food is just not that good at all and more like cheap cafeteria food. This means every item: the pulled pork, the brisket, the cole slaw, etc. Greasy, fatty meats with small portions for the price. I'm a decent cook myself, and after eating their food I immediately thought about how and with little effort that I could do much better myself. From other negative reviews I have read, this place is extremely defensive and doesn't seem to want to accept the truth about their shortcomings which is a huge red flag in itself because it demonstrates that they don't handle criticisms well and with no desire to address these and improve. In other words a high level of arrogance as if they know better than everyone else. If a restaurant is going to feel and react this way and not value their customers then there is no reason to go back. Honestly, not sure how they have stayed in business as long as they have with this approach. 2/6/24: The owner Scott called me as he was unhappy about my review and attempted to defend his business. Unfortunately he did anything but, and just as they have and in response to some other reviews, tried to tell me that I was in the wrong and criticize my "pallet" and implied that I was seeking free food. Just a very poor and unprofessional way for a business owner to handle a call with a customer. I stand by my statement that I could make better pork, brisket, and potato salad myself because I'm 100% certain that this is the case . Scott, your food is just not very good, and suggest that you take seriously all of the other critical reviews that you have gotten versus being so defensive as this will hopefully help you to improve to be able to offer real bbq. Update: What I stated about the call with Scott was 100% accurate. The majority of it was him criticizing me and trying to defend his food. As evidenced by his response to other reviews he obviously can't handle honest criticism. Read some of the other negative reviews and how they respond to them which completely validate what I have said Interesting that he refers to "awards", yet there are no years noted for these. As far as the email he shared, it's real easy to get an employee or friend to write this. Keep trying with your defense Scott,l. I understand that the...
