When my brother and I were children my grandparents brought us to Johnny's on occasion. While looking for a Sunday dinner option, Johnny's came up and I was surprised to see that after all these years, it was still open. The restaurant (set-up and decor) wasn't exactly what I remembered, but I can see why my grandparents liked it. It was dimly lit, very quiet, and fit with retro wooden panelling, Also of note, during our visit we were the only table that was (to put it delicately) under a certain age. I didn't notice any early bird specials, but regular house specials were listed on a separate menu card. Our table shared a pair of appetizers. The stuffed mushrooms and saganaki. Both of which were mid. 8 mushrooms to an order, stuffed with ground pork. The Saganaki was easily the largest and thickest I've ever seen. It wasn't lit on fire tableside so the notes of brandy that it would normally have, were not present. We did agree that that taste of the cheese was more enjoyable the more we ate. For dinner I ordered Chicken Alfredo because I vaguely recall ordering it and enjoying it here when I was younger. It looked magnificent and it somewhat resembled what I remember it being. Not a super bold alfredo flavor, but it did the job and the portion was large enough for me to save half for lunch the next day. Cream of chicken soup came with my order and it was bland. Very unenjoyable. I almost never salt or pepper anything at any table, but this soup needed it in the worst way and it didn't help. I'd probably refer to this soup as cream of cream with chicken. Chicken and Ribs combo was ordered by my brother and he seemed to speak very highly of the plate. He enjoyed the flavor of the ribs. Miguel was our server for the evening and he did a fantastic job, he introduced himself, checked on us, got refills quickly, gave us updates on our order and even got my son a little ice cream sundae. 5 star service. This man would be an asset to any restaurant. Before writing this I saw a previous review noted that this restaurant had a "vibrant" atmosphere, I seriously question that assessment, but did notice that there was a sign for live music. So maybe that's what the reference was for. In closing, our visit to Johnnys was okay. We had agreed on 3 stars before we even left the table. Service being the bright spot for sure. I'm not ruling out a return visit, but the time and place would have...

The calamari was good, my wife's shrimp scampi was also good. My steak sandwich was tender and flavorful. Big disappointment was the asiago potatoes. Now, I'm a pretty good cook, as a matter of fact better than many. I've cooked all over the place. Those potatoes were terrible, they were watery, they had no flavor, and just the asiago was not enough to save them. So, two forks full and that's it. My wife had the blueberry cocktail, she really enjoyed it. But the most disappointing thing was, our waiter was just not a friendly individual. He seemed not to want to interact much, he wasn't attentive, and didn't smile! Which is okay, he didn't get an excellent tip either. There were about three tables full of people in the entire building, and he still was not that attentive to our table.
As you can see, from all of my reviews, I don't penalize the food because of the waiter. Those are two separate and distinct issues. And I doubt if the waiter would have changed my review as far as stars go. I will say, the bathrooms were spotless, and like I always say, clean bathrooms equal clean kitchens! Remember that when you go to a restaurant you've never been in before, check out the bathroom first thing, if it's a dump (no pun intended LOL), go eat somewhere else!
The atmosphere in the booths is relaxing, the ambiance of the entire facility elicits a certain privacy which is enjoyable.
Only thing I would suggest, employees should knock on the bathroom doors before they walk in, my wife was quite surprised!
If you like, give me a call, I'll show you how to make even better steaks and the best potatoes you've ever shoved in...
Read moreIF YOU'RE NOT A REGULAR BEWARE!!! We were staying at the sybaris down the street when we dined here. We were seated but no one took our drink order for awhile although it wasn't very busy, there were a few people there. We finally got our drink order and since it took so long , he ( idk who cuz he didn't introduce himself) took our order at the same time. As we waited we realized everyone new that came in was known to the hostess/ staff. They got their drink orders pronto and bread baskets before meals upon seating. We didn't get a basket. We looked around and everyone else had the baskets. After they gave us our food, they never checked on us again.I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich which was pretty fatty, and my husband ordered the 6peice wing and one was basically a lollipop with just skin, the nachos had mostly iceberg lettuce and no cheese. I do have a pic of that. we didn't say anything because of how uncomfortable we were. . Not once we were ask if we were ok, needed refills. It's almost like we were not welcome. We than waited so long for our check cuz our " server" which on my receipt says Diego G. was making conversation with other patrons but we never even got a refill. We'd waited so long , I stood at the front where you pay to make a point we're ready to go. You would think they're used to out of town ppl but clearly they are just used to their same old repeat. It put a damper on the first part of our night. I've had better service at Red Robbin. So sad that a beautiful place has such ignorant...
