Visited for the first time and picked a cake for my husband’s 40th today — I had my eye on the heart shaped vanilla chocolate mousse cake and thankfully they had it in stock! It’s a 6” small cake and it was the perfect size for us (4 adults & 3 kids!) — very light, not overly sweet, and no dangerous leftovers :) we got a few macarons and a couple of other pastries too.
From the looks of it they don’t take pre-orders, or at least I couldn’t see anything that alluded to that possibility online. My daughter’s bday is coming up in less than 2 months and I will definitely be visiting again for that! I would love to try the mango cake eventually. 🥭🧡
Coffee was good, too. Thank you, looking forward to next time.
Edit: it turns out that the mousse cake has gelatin and we avoid gelatin (especially pork), so that’s a bummer — I wish it had occurred to me to look at the ingredients online (I don’t recall there being ingredient list on site when I went in person. I could be mistaken though, I wasn’t looking out for one) but it hadn’t occurred to me that mousse would contain gelatin. I’m not a cake expert. However it looks like the other non-mousse cakes don’t contain gelatin. So if you consume only halal or are a vegan, I’d avoid the mousse cakes.
Second edit: went to grab a bday cake for my daughter today. There were ingredients listed on site so it’s on me for not having paid attention last time I went. I asked a couple of the employees about some other ingredients and they didn’t know whether it was animal or plant source. However, as I was checking out with a cake, an older Asian gentleman (whom I think was working in the back or in the kitchen) took the time to walk me through the ingredient list and assure me that they were plant based because he was aware that many Muslim customers have concerns about some of the ingredients in some of the products. I was very thankful, that was very kind of him and I was happy to walk away...
Read moreI am really crazy about the bakery, and when I heard about this place, I went there first in the morning and checked the stores out. I didn’t have chance to taste all the bakery, but I bought the half of their bakery and ate all.
Atmosphere Loved how they arranged the table and the register. It was in same place, but by dividing kinds into two place, they gave a people a little bit of privacy. If customer comes in store and able to see all the people in that store, I think (personal perspective) it is not really, good. But Tous Les jours separated and gave a cozy kinda place.
Service At the register, when I was checked out, I felt little uncomfortable because there was no smiles on the employee face. I really consider about the customer service. I went there before 8am and I know that “they were not fully awake” but when the store provides the customer service, they have to provide the best service even in the middle of bad circumstances.
this is one of the major issue I always see in Korean Stores, they need to have little bit of improvement
Food i bought the half of their bakery (Not the cake), and tasted, some bakery is really new to chicago town and the female customers would love this bakery. It has little bit sugar-y. But the appearance is really good. For the taste only, I would give 3.9/5
Also, I had a coffee, it was just regular coffee, nothing special compared to other coffee. probably, they focused on the bakery
Cost For some bakery, it seems a bit expensive than other place. I would say, this is not really expensive place, but not cheap place either.
Over all, I would give 4.3. this is new business location and I see very high potentials if they...
Read moreI recently tried Tour Le Jour and walked away with mixed feelings. On the one hand, I have to admit their cakes are actually really good. The flavors are rich, the textures are moist, and when they’re fresh, you can tell the quality is there. It’s the kind of cake that makes you want to come back for special occasions, because the core product—when done right—is worth it.
But unfortunately, not everything about this bakery hits the same standard. One of the biggest issues I noticed right away was with the baked goods they keep out on display. A lot of the items looked stale, and in some cases, I even noticed flies hovering around them. That instantly makes you question how long those pastries and breads have been sitting out and what kind of quality control is happening behind the counter. It’s hard to enjoy a bakery when you can visibly see bugs near the food.
On top of that, my sister also shared her experience, and it wasn’t much better. She had purchased a cake that should have been fresh and delicious, but instead, it tasted stale almost like it had been sitting in the fridge for too long. That kind of inconsistency makes it hard to trust the bakery, because you never know if what you’re getting will be fresh or not.
It’s disappointing, because when Tour Le Jour is on point, the cakes really are tasty. But the lack of attention to freshness, the flies around the display, and the reports of stale products make it hard to recommend without hesitation. If they improved their handling of baked goods and focused more on quality control, this place could easily shine. For now, it feels like a...
