A group of neighbors did the igloo experience in the Bear on Friday, February 28. We didn’t get into the igloo until 8:15 which was fine, however the waitress was very snippy right off the bat. She didn’t want to be there and we could tell. We gave our drink order and appetizers. After she set down the apps, which came out quickly, she asked for our order and we weren’t ready. She said the orders need to be in by 8:30, so she said she would be right back for them. It was odd and very unfriendly. No smiles, no fun, and I said don’t we just get in here at 8:15? After we placed our orders, they came rather quickly and my first bite of the Parmesan cod I knew something was not right. I had my husband and neighbor try it too, and they agreed it tasted like butane. She brought me a menu and said what else do you want. That was it! I ordered the jerk pasta, which was awful and tasted like nutmeg, and had a bite of my husband’s crab cakes that were cold and full of bread crumbs mostly, he didn’t like his meal either. She came back in after bringing my pasta and said “anything else”? We gave her another order for a few drinks and upon bringing those she said last call anything else….. again not friendly at all! She made the experience not at all what we had experienced there before. The automatic 20% was ridiculous because we would not have given 20%, she didn’t want to be there which put a damper on our time in the igloo. The lights were then shut off at 10:15, hinting for us to scram. We left and will never ever be back again. At least for us, that will be it. We were there on Valentine’s Day and had a better experience, better waitress and somewhat better food, although cooking the fish on tin foil is not recommended, it stuck to it and was hard to eat! But we had a nice time that wasn’t hurried that day. For spending $160 per couple, you would think it could have been better….just smile, be nice, and apologize for having me just...
Read moreVery disappointing. Poor Quality + super OVERPRICED. Service was “okay” byt everything else was quite sad.
I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and all has gone down hill. The place had been a go-to in my family for years. The ambiance and charm inside the restaurant is real, although everything about the place is severely lacking lately.
Extended patio is a nice option. Three of us paid $20+ EACH at lunch our sandwiches (chicken, turkey, buffalo), all of which were lack-luster, flavorless, and cold upon arrival to our table. This was late-lunchtime, about 4pm-ish.
We each had one beer with our sandwich. We were charged $8-$10 per DRAFT, for local Michigan, BELLS beer. Steep price.
If I’m now paying $19 for a sandwich and $8-$10 for one local beer, please deliver.
Food was cold. Beer was warm. We even asked server for recs before ordering anything. Please don’t tell us it’s good if it is not!?!
Again, our sandwiches arrived cold. Who wants a cold burger for $21?
I had turkey reuban. I took 3/4 on my sandwich home, and sadly will now toss it in trash this morning. It’s pretty gross.
Server was “bragging” about having 7 different “side choices” we got 4 of the 7 sides all of which were cold and very over/under cooked (sweet pots, mashed pots, broccoli, onion rings).
Tried to order a soup or salad as side. Nope, $7+ upcharge for each… Steep… I guess those sides just don’t count. I’m also glad I didn’t end up getting any cold soup anyway… lol.
This was my last chance here unless they fix something… Again, it’s sad, I’ve been coming here forever. It’s now quantityquality and...
Read moreAMBIENCE: Had a hard time deciding whether to eat inside or out as both places looked so inviting. We chose inside because of the tree trunks and all the lighting. Loved how the plants in the window boxes outside shown thru also into the dining room and the little ceiling lights reflected in the windows. (It felt like a woodsy fairyland....if you discounted the moose head on the wall.) The outside landscaping was outstanding. Kudos to whoever is in charge of that.
FOOD: One of us had roast beef stew and one of us had a turkey reuben with fries. Generous portions for both of us to take home leftovers for lunch the next day. The fries were unique curly shapes and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I loved them. The turkey reuben was a bit bland. The roast beef was big chunks and made my partner very happy. Also..on a side note, the carry out containers were extra sturdy and way better than those flimsy styrofoam ones and also came with a carrying bag. Nice touch. The draft beer selection was also diversified and well done for this craft beer drinker to be happy with that.
CONS: Closes early (9pm). Also, the ladies restroom was about as boring and plain as it gets. No special touches in there. Not a one. Clean enough though but whoever is in charge of the landscaping should be allowed to throw some flowers or something in there. (I always check this out and I've chatted with other ladies about this and we notice that kind of stuff.)
PROS: Those patios! We look forward to going back again and enjoying the outdoor...
