Carpe Diem Cafe — Restaurant in Norwalk

I drove by here last week and wanted to stop by to check it out after I checked their Instagram page. The decor looked super cute and I was excited to see an actual cafe/coffee shop since we don’t have too many of those here.

I had a medium iced chai latte and a large lemonade. They were served in glasses since I was drinking them there but the glasses were the same exact size with the liquid volume being the same, despite me ordering a medium and a large for the two drinks? Not sure why that happened. Maybe it would have been different if I had gotten the to go cups.

My friend said her lemonade was great but my iced chai latte had no flavor! It tasted like I was drinking watered down milk with light sugar. And I paid I think $7 for this.

One other thing that happened, when my friend and I walked in, we saw who I believe was the owner or manager at the counter. My friend said hi to him and he just looked at her but didn’t say anything. There was a girl hidden by the register that we didn’t see at first who responded to us but I just think it’s a bit rude that he didn’t reply at all, even with a smile.

Maybe he thought since the girl responded to us that he didn’t need to?

The bathroom also had no toilet paper 😭 Just paper towels. I would have mentioned it to them but they had a line when I came out and I just decided to leave.

UPDATE After receiving a response to my review, I did go back and personally spoke with one of the owners.

He apologized and stated that it made sense as to why I was caught off guard and explained their reasoning behind the change:

Carpe Diem is, allegedly, going to be focusing more on specialty coffee beverages and giving the appropriate sized cups for specific types of drinks (like in the EU). He explained that they are working on getting things set up to display the correct sizes, have more explanations as to why certain drinks are certain sizes, and overall provide their customers with a positive experience.

Carpe Diem is a fantastic coffee shop and I highly recommend them. PS: try their pumpkin spice latte with oat milk (you won’t be disappointed)

I’m giving this a 2 star for now. I’ve been going here since they opened and have loved it, but today I was left less than impressed.

After ordering the same drink I always get (large, vanilla latte {hot}, with oat milk) I was given what looks to be a medium sized cup and was told after the fact that they have now changed their sizes and amount of shots they put into the larges.

Why is it still the same price if I’m getting WAY less product than what I originally had (much larger cup, 4 shots of espresso instead of 2 {for a large}) and why was I not made aware of this change prior to ordering? It’s very easy to place cups in LOS of customers…

If this is a large, what size is the small now? Is the small and medium the same size now, but priced...

This was our first time at carpe DM Café. We arrived around 810, and the sign indicated that they opened at 7 AM, so we figured everything would be good. We were pretty much the only patrons in the café for most of the time there was one other person there that grabbed a coffee and sat down and was reading a book.

We ordered a coffee, a latte, a water , a sandwich on a bagel and a platter as well as one doughnut.

The coffee and the latte were ready pretty quick like an under five minutes, which was great and they tasted really good which we were excited about, however, after waiting for 35 minutes, the food hadn’t come out and we needed to head out home to start working. So we went to the front and asked for it to be package

It took another five minutes or so to finish cooking the food I guess, and when we got home, the sandwich was not on a bagel and we were not informed that it wouldn’t be on a bagel and we were charged extra for the bagel. The bacon was not crispy at all, and it just overall was not an impressive meal, given the amount of time it took to put together.

I’m not sure what was going on this day because the rest of the reviews are so glowing, but for us we always give a place two times so I’m sure we’ll be back and hope that our experience is better but for today it was a two star...
