Honest Restaurant is Norwood's newest restaurant and is part of a large chain of Indian restaurants out of Ahmedabad. They specialize in street food-style Indian fare and the menu is extensive and packed with all kinds of dishes.
They just opened their week so it may explain some of the kinks but ordering over the phone wasn't particularly easy and our takeout order - which wasn't even that significant felt expensive, costing well over $90 with tip but only being composed of a few appetizers and sandwiches.
The Paneer Tikka ($13) was pretty good - the portion was generous considering it was an appetizer but the Palak Paneer ($16) wasn't very good. The paneer was very chewy and rubbery and the spinach was way too blended and soupy.
The samosas ($8 for two pieces) were the best thing we ate tonight and came with two different chutneys which was nice. However on the flipside, the Cheese Bhaji Parv ($13) wasn't that great and for $13, I'd expect a bit more than 2 pieces of bread with some lentils. The garlic naan ($7) wasn't that great and the side of raita was warm which wasn't ideal.
I'd also like to point that we wanted to order different items but had to pivot because they were unable to make dosas even though it's advertised on their menu.
The website is mediocre at best (and this new location isn't even listed) and we can't order online.
Ultimately while excited for this new addition to the area, I am disappointed by some of these shortcomings and hope that this is just from the fact that they're still tuning things since they're so new. I'll revisit them again - in a while - in hopes for a...
Read moreHonest Indian Restaurant in Norwood had intrigued me for some time, especially given its confident name. Excitedly, we decided to try a variety of dishes, spanning from classic street food to hearty mains. Our order included vada pav, chowmein, paneer handi, and veg pulao.
Firstly, I must commend the restaurant on its prompt service. Our dishes arrived in good time, which is always a positive sign of efficiency and good kitchen management. The staff were courteous, ensuring our dining experience was as smooth as possible.
However, as we began our culinary journey, we quickly realized that our excitement might have been slightly premature. None of the dishes truly encapsulated the rich and diverse flavors one associates with Indian cuisine. The vada pav lacked the spicy punch; the chowmein, though not traditionally Indian, missed that Indo-Chinese fusion zest; the paneer handi was rather bland, missing the signature creamy richness; and the veg pulao seemed hastily put together without the harmonious blend of spices.
Our hope was to satiate our craving for authentic Indian flavors, but we found ourselves merely tasting the dishes without the enthusiasm to finish them. It’s unfortunate when the name of a place promises honesty and authenticity, but the flavor profile doesn’t align with those expectations.
In conclusion, while Honest Indian Restaurant offers commendable service, there’s considerable room for improvement in the culinary department. I hope they take feedback in stride and work towards delivering a more authentic taste experience...
Read moreThis place used to be really good a year ago, but I am not sure what has happened lately, but their food quality and service has deteriorated since 👎
We have tried a lot of things from their menu, we love their dry Manchurian fried rice, Dahi puri, chur chur naan, onion chili uttapam and honest tawa pulao.
Since a very long time, we have been trying to order schezwan ghotala from their menu, but they never have it which is weird. This place can be a hit or miss in terms of the items you can get sometimes and also their service, it’s not standardized which is sad since it is a chain restaurant.
My husband used to enjoy their shakes, bahubali sandwich and falooda, as well. On our recent visit, they offered us complimentary jalebi fafda on the occasion of dusshera, but the Jalebi tasted of oil, and had hair in jt. 🙊
The wait staff is not very attentive, they will forget to bring water, they will never come and check on you if everything was alright or if you need anything. The place hasn’t been cleaned for a long time which is evident due to their sticky floors.
I hope they take the feedback and make some improvements. I really used to like coming to this place, but since the last 3 visits it feels like they are not interested in their...
