I wanted to share the story of how the manager at the Norwood location saved what could have been a horrible experience. What began as an awful experience ended up being a good one. Due to circumstances going on in our life on the day we decided it would be best to order food for dinner and have it delivered. On the Boston Tavern website when I clicked to order online and have it delivered it automatically took me to ChowNow for the delivery. I'm not someone who uses food delivery services very often and since the website sent me to that link, I assumed it was a good delivery service.
Food was to be delivered to my workplace about 15 minutes before my quitting time so that I didn't have to go out of my way. It didn't show up. I contacted ChowNow and was told they didn't know if it was picked up or not.
I called the store and a female I first spoke with says she couldn't tell me if the food was picked up or not. That made no sense. It's either there or it isn't. She put me on hold and next a male got on the phone who said he was "one of the managers" and he proceeded to tell me that all they do is cook the food and they have nothing to do with it after that. I said, except you have my money, don't you? He proceed to say again, very rudely, that "as I said, we only cook the food, who you choose to use for a delivery service is up to you". Well I chose the delivery service that the website took me to. I told him I was going to file a complaint with consumer protection and he replied that I just threatened him and he was hanging up.
This whole time I was also on a chat with the delivery service. Nobody at the delivery service or the restaurant could confirm if my food was still at the restaurant or not and it was now about an hour late. I figured I was just going to have to take the loss on the money and find something else for dinner, make a stop on the way home, etc.
This is where things turned for the better - A few minutes later my phone rang and it was a different person who said he was the MANAGER of the restaurant and heard I was having a problem. He said he was having all new food prepared and would have it delivered to me. I said that it was great and that I would pick it up instead. He also told me that he was in touch with ChowNow to make sure I was refunded and that my meal was on them. I told him I had no issue paying for my food, but he insisted, said it was the right thing to do. I went to the restaurant to pick up the food and he handed me the order and said he also put some cheesecake in with the order. Now THAT is how customer service should work. Had he not stepped in and took the steps he did, I would probably never be going to that restaurant ever again. It's unfortunate that the two employees I first spoke with showed zero concern and one was very rude, but the manager saved the entire situation. Yes, I was an hour late getting home, but that was the fault of the delivery service. Now I know not to just click on the link on the website. I also know to ask to speak to the head manager.
Hopefully the restaurant will remove the automatic link to ChowNow and hopefully the first two people I dealt with will get some much needed customer service training. We've been going to Boston Tavern for years and have a loyalty card and we surely would have missed continuing to go there because of a...
Read moreReview based off of 2 visits within 2 days, the 1st visit being a takeout order, the 2nd visit being a dine-in at the bar.
1st visit, location seems nice, must be fairly new as I was unaware of it. Typically, I frequent the West Bridgewater and Middleboro locations, as well as their sister restaurant 'Medway Cafe'. They also own the Ashland Ale House, however I have never dined there before. I ordered a takeout order as I was staying at a hotel in the area. I ordered a kids order of chicken tenders, an order of buffalo chicken dip, and 2 orders of Steak Tips. Food was great, hot when I arrived back at the hotel. Order was ready in 25 minutes, everything I needed for a takeout order which is nice because most restaurants forget something like plasticware or napkins, or something of the sort. Didn't happen here. Hosts were very friendly, smiling, doublechecked the order before handing it to me.
2nd visit was a bit away from perfect. Sat at the bar, took a couple of minutes for the bartender to get to me. That seemed to be the theme of the night as I noticed numerous guests having to wait somewhere around 5 minutes to get service from a bartender. Bartender was super nice. I ordered 3 bud light bottles, started with an order of potato skins which were delicious. They tasted fresh which is the opposite from most bars/restaurants in the area that serve potato skins. I later ordered a buffalo chicken pizza to go to bring back to the hotel. It took around 40 minutes to get the pizza. I did tell the bartender to take their time, so for me I was okay with the wait, but it is an aspect most might not be okay with. Prices are fair.
Got back to the hotel and started to eat the pizza, noticed there was no bleu cheese on the pizza. I am unsure of whether they used bleu cheese dressing or bleu cheese crumble on their pizza, but I am experienced in the restaurant industry, I know there is no bleu cheese on it (picture for reference). Not a deal breaker, worse things can happen. The pizza regardless of the bleu cheese was mediocre. I probably won't order a pizza again, but the rest of the food I've had is really good.
I recommend stopping in if you haven't tried yet. Comfortable atmosphere . TVs to watch the game. Right down the street from Gillette Stadium. Lottery available. Plenty of bar seating....
Read moreIf a zero were a thing I’d leave that. Not only is the food pretty terrible that’s actually the least of it from the experience I had about two weeks ago. Four other friends and I decided to have dinner and drinks. We got about four apps and all got meals and drinks. The waitress was clearly weeded which is fine maybe it was too busy for her but then when she was cut and let it be known she was cut she said she would send another server over and never did. Cool. We paid our tab with her which was about $400. We then decided to get another round through the bar. Cool great fine. So it was the anniversary of our friends dads death so the conversation got emotional and some tears were shed. The bartender rude as hell comes over interrupts us with our tab in her hand and says” are you guys all set? “ wasn’t even last call nor did we get offered last call. We were done anyway but still had not finished our drinks. Whatever we were finishing the conversation gathering our money when now the manager an old guy with white hair also interrupts us and even more rude than the bartender states that we need to hurry up and pay the tab! Like really?!? No mention of last call or anything like what because our friend is crying you think we are drunk or something? No. So unprofessional and flat out rude. I couldn’t believe it. So again we paid that tab and we will never give a dollar to that establishment ever again. Shame on them. We spent over $500 dollars just to get rushed out after horrible service and food. What a joke. Collectively my friends and I had been in the bar industry for over 15 years and I’ve never seen such rude behavior over an emotional conversation partaking in a bar we thought we...
