This has been me and my family’s spot for YEARS but we will no longer be returning after tonight. We had ordered our food, it only took 10 mins to come out which was great they’re normally really good with wait times. When our food came out we haven’t received waters so we waved down a nearby employee and asked if we could get waters at our table, she had rolled her eyes and went to grab our guy server who brought our waters out, I know it can get really busy and we’re super understanding but was just thrown off by her expression when we asked her for waters. I had order short ribs, this is the first time I’ve experienced a bad plate in the years we’ve come here, it was completely hard to chew through/pull off the bone only the fatty parts were easy to pull off and eat. I didn’t want to say anything as it was close to closing time but my fiance had brought it up to another server on the younger side when he went to pay for the bill, the younger lady was super understanding and had the cook remake the dish for us to bring it home as they were close to closing time. When the food was done she handed it to the lady who rolled her eyes at us earlier to give it to us, when she handed the food to my fiance she made the remark “ wow first complaint of the day” .. that remark was completely uncalled...
Read moreFirst time here and I wasn’t craving pho so I ordered lemongrass chicken (#38?). It was underwhelming to say the least. I’ve had lemongrass chicken from other Vietnamese restaurants such as mama pho in Aina Haina and the difference in texture and flavor is like night and day. It didn’t have the nice char and slightly crispy exterior I’m used to. It also didn’t taste lemongrassy at all; it tasted more like it was seasoned with watered down yellow curry sauce like they didn’t use any spices at all. It costs $20 vs mama pho’s $18.50, I don’t think I’ll be returning. I want to add that the rest of the people I ate with seemed to like their food but we all agreed that their prices were higher than other Vietnamese restaurants we’ve been to here in Hawaii. There was also a very visible dead roach in the bathroom, I was gonna pick it up and flush it. I’m gonna give them the benefit of the doubt that it died after their most recent bathroom check? Its one saving grace and reason for the stars is the pretty good service. The waiters we had were friendly and attentive. I hope they can improve the food quality so they can convert new customers to loyal ones! Until then, best of...
Read moreI don't think this restaurant, Cuu Long, is affiliated with Cuu Long 2 in Chinatown in downtown Honolulu, but the similar name and the ability to pay with credit cards was enough to draw my friend and I in this afternoon. Situated in a not exactly glitzy strip mall, the interior was still nicely appointed. And the menu offered everything I'd expect, including a tempting bahn mi sandwich.
But we were there for pho, and our combination beef and rare steak bowls hit the spot. Better than average broth. What really caught our eye was an extra-large serving size, about 150 percent larger than the medium. Though it was too much for us today, it's definitely something we...
