This place is small and popular with the locals who will swear by the ox tail soup so be prepared to wait for a table. Fortunately the service is super quick so you will not wait long.

As I hinted in my introduction, if you love ox tails, this is the place you need to be. The Kapiolani Coffee Shop is a small mom and pop place with fast friendly service. The Ox tail soup was full of meat nice served in light broth served with a side of white rice. Be sure to dip your meat in the freshly ground ginger and soy sauce to make it extra special. Kim-chee fried rice topped with egg. I recommend going with over easy or even sunny side up but anyway you order your egg you will enjoy the flavorful rice dish. The shoyu chicken is also worth a try. A healthy portion of chicken thighs cooked in their (I'm guessing) shoyu sauce served with macaroni or green salad...

There food is really good I know because I worked there for years.But today my family and I had breakfast take out and my daughter found a dead fly in her fried rice. Disgusting! She went back to the take out counter and the girl was trying to get her to order something else. My daughter was so disgusted that she just wanted to show them the fly so it wouldn’t happen to another customer. Well, my daughter did get $12 and somewhat change back but no sorry or an apology at all. DISAPPOINTED!!! My husband and I came here for lunch. He ordered his favorite, oxtail soup, and I ordered kalbi rice with extra kalbi. The food came out quickly, but as soon as I took a bite, I noticed a strange taste. I wasn’t sure at first, so I asked my husband to try it. The moment he tasted it, he spit it out and said the meat was sour and spoiled.

We immediately called the server over and told them about it. They apologized and offered to replace my order, which they did, but that doesn’t change the fact that the first plate they served me had spoiled meat. This makes me question whether they check the freshness of their food at all.
