After Rehab yesterday, I wanted to try something different to take home for lunch. Von’s Chicken Waimalu. Right next to Palama Supermarket and also connected to it by a side door. Ive eaten at many Korean Chicken Places but surprisingly not Vons so i was pretty excited to see how they measure up. I immediately knew what I wanted so i got a Half order of Boneless Crispy Honey 🍯 Butter Chicken & Half order of Boneless Crispy Shoyu Chicken. I also couldn’t resist ordering the Honey Butter French Fries. The lady that took my order had a very strong accent but I’m used to hearing heavy accents so i could understand most of what she was saying, but i think most people would have a very hard time. She was very nice though so things were pleasant enough. Was about a 20 minute wait so I decided to shop at Palama in the meantime. I came back after 20 minutes and there was a man waiting in there along with me. I could tell he was not happy. Apparently his order was not ready. There was a miscommunication of some sort with the order and the reply was that it would take more time to fix it, he replied dryly that his lunch break time was fading away 😓ugh. I could hear her repeating apologetically ☹️ i felt so bad for both of them. Anyway, my order wasn’t ready either so I patiently waited. While waiting it gave me a chance to look around with a critical eye. The place had definitely seen better days. Was beat up looking. Boxes of stock take out containers lined the entire counter and the place looked uncared for. I started to worry wondering if my excitement over something new took over my better judgment? Too late. My order was ready finally and glancing into the paper bag to give it a check over, the smell of those hot Honey Butter French Fries washed away any doubts. Looking at them had my eyes shining 🤩 which is super super rare. The last time that happened was in Japan with a $300 steak! After sanitizing my hands in the truck, I immediately dug into them immediately because I wanted to try them Hot. (my husband was driving anyway and had his own fries from Shiro’s lol. ) I wasn’t disappointed. They were absolutely delicious!!! The seasoning of the light butter taste combined with the generous amount sweet honey seasoning had me in my own world. I highly recommend!! But,like all fries you must eat them immediately. They taste best hot. Honestly, by the time i got home, i was full from the fries so i didn’t eat the chicken right away. Maybe 15 minutes later i reluctantly took out one of each flavor to at least sample even though i was full. Both the Shoyu and Honey Butter were on point with flavor. Shoyu was my favorite of the two flavors. Savory with a touch of sweetness. The Honey Butter had the same seasoning as the fries. Both were a little over cooked. Was okay though so because i was stuffed, i put it away to eat later. Big Mistake. Theses are not good as leftovers. Eat them hot or not at all. Unlike other places like wingstop or even pizza hut, the chicken is still good the day after. Not here, which was a let down because they weren’t cheap. For of this reason, they got 3 stars. Too bad. I really wanted to love it but the fries are awesome so I’m glad i tried it. I will come again if its someone...
Read moreHorrible experience. Went in to pick up a phone order. The female working ( the only employee) doesn't speak English well which is fine but she is highly incompetent and does not know anything about customer service. I did notice that she was in the back breading chicken and putting it in the fryer with NO GLOVES then continued to assist me at the counter without washing her hands. She wiped them with something but still had flower on her hands and proceeded to grab my order to bring it to me. This is not proper hygiene. The floors were dirty as well as the back kitchen area that was visible. The cheap box of members mark oil was sitting in the middle of the greasy floor with a empty bottle of sanizer on top of it, upside down.odd Left without purchasing. Side note, I had Vons chicken before it's not the chicken that's bad per say more so the hygiene and cleanliness of the prep of food and space at this location. Have some pride in your brand and who u hire to run ur business. Disgusting
Custom service: poor Atmosphere:filthy and no ventilation
Would never purchase anything from this establishment. the Dept of health needs to pay...
Read morethe menu is very different from the one in korea. there are four things in the chicken menu and maybe five things in the side menu. the fried rice cake reminded me of the skewers id eat as a kid. just the right amount of sweetness. they only use wings and drumstick for the fried chicken. wish it was specified in the menu. this is my first time eating korean fried chicken outside of korea and i expected the same experience since it's a korean franchise. the chicken tasted fresh, which is something i never experience at kfc or popeyes. the spicy chicken wasnt spicy and the plain chicken...
