Really good sushi considering how far this place is from a body of water that can sustain sea life. The experience is NOT a traditional restaurant experience (for better or worse). When you first walk-in, you check-in using a tablet at the entrance. You're then shown your table where you can place your drink(s) or special item order(s) using the touchscreen above the rotary bar. Speaking of, the main attraction is the rotary bar from which you can take as many plates as you'd like (just lift the plate up and the lid will pop open for you) and your total is tallied as you place empty dishes in the chute under the rotary bar. Any orders are delivered via robot. You can checkout using the app on your phone, but can opt for a traditional checkout process; paper receipt and all. But ya; you never really need to interact with a human beyond being shown to your seat.. The whole thing does strike as VERY Japanese in the sense that it relies heavily on technology and autonomy, which I really enjoy. The staff even said "Arigato gozaimasu" (formal "Thank You") as I left.
The only reason I give this place 4 stars is that the drinks are overpriced (which I guess they financed the robot) and I was promised that a someone would come by to explain things to me before I got started. And yes, I realize the irony given my previous comment about enjoying the autonomy of this setup. However, given that this was my first time here, having someone give a brief rundown of how things worked would have made the experience a little smoother. But after 10 minutes of waiting and opted to seek forgiveness rather than permission and started tapping buttons and pulling plates which, to be fair, was rather intuitive.
And for anyone who's concerned; no, I did not have any "digestive distress"...
Read moreTruly a bad dining experience. Started off being brought to a table where the seats and table were soaked in soy sauce. The staff member watched my family clean the table ourselves instead of getting it properly cleaned. Our pants were stained when we left. We weren't given utensils or soy sauce plates until asking. The soy sauce bottle was empty at the table. The robot took almost 20 minutes to serve our drinks. The AC was also way too high and we were shivering the whole meal. Children were running around the restaurant wrestling each other. But the worst part was how bad the food was. The raw fish was incredibly fishy. I was genuinely worried the minced tuna would give me food poisoning, it was that bad. We ended up ordering cooked options from the menu after everything we pulled from the belt was not tasting fresh. Even that wasn't great. Fried shrimp were soggy and dripping in oil, for example. Beef was overcooked and difficult to chew. We went at peak dinner time and sat near the start of the belt, yet 50% of the plates were empty. Most lids were also covered in sauce and fingerprints. Very little variety.
Staff needs better training. Fish quality is seriously questionable. Incredibly dirty everything. I mean by far the dirtiest restaurant I've been to. I've never felt the need to leave such a long review before, but there's just so much that went wrong I could literally keep going...
The bathrooms were clean. That's literally all I can say was positive about...
Read moreThis was a repeat visit for our family. Highly recommend based on the atmosphere, as long as you're not expecting high end, designer sushi. It may take some trial and error, but for a few bucks per serving, it is worth trying new things.
My wife and kids are a bit more picky and typically order custom off the screen, which arrives fairly quickly on the secondary conveyor. I prefer the novelty of a variety of small plates that come on the main conveyor. The empty slots on the conveyor that others complain about, I see as a positive, because I know the food is not sitting there too long and I am happy to wait for fresh made food.
The big reason to come is for a fun environment. We made this trip specifically for this month's partnership with We Bare Bears from Cartoon Network. I think last time we came, they partnered with My Hero Academia. For every 15 plates you eat off the conveyor, you get a small prize dispensed automatically. We also got a 3 piece cup set for spending over $60!
If you plan on coming here a few times a year or are a regular for lunch, make sure you download the app for rewards. The We Bare Bears giveaway was a result of us being Rewards members. If any of it sounds complicated, the employees are quick to help when you hit the call button.
Lastly, make sure you order drinks so you get to see the adorable robot server that delivers to your table. Makes me...
