Oak Island Pub — Restaurant in Oak Island

We are in walking distance, so we thought we'd give it a try. We've since been back three more times and now think of this as our "local".

The staff have been very friendly, attentive and helpful. I was sort of expecting the food to be pretty basic, but it turned out to be amazing. They need to pay more to the cook(s). For example, they had a soft-shell crab special, and it was soooo good. We both love when things are lightly fried and not greasy. Every fried item we've had has been done right!

On another day, I ordered a pork chop with okra. I've had slimy okra before, but this was done perfectly. And for a relatively thin chop, it was both tender and juicy - which is tough to do. We've never had to wait long for our food, but we do try to avoid the busiest times.

You may think this is strange, but I get a good feeling if the restroom is not a dirty, smelly mess. The restroom here is clean, fresh smelling has automatic soap and towel dispensers, and decor on the walls. If they keep this area nice, I bet the rest of the place is well maintained.

In conclusion, you may think it's a "dive bar" based on the decor, etc., but I strongly recommend you try the food (my wife likes the martinis too). Even though it's a little warm we like sitting in the bright, open bar to the left as you go in the front door. The customers too have been friendly and good natured, adding to our desire to keep going back.

4 of us went there for lunch last weekend. Very average place. We all agreed there are much better options on OKI. This is not so much a Deli & a pub, but really a bar that serves food. Atmosphere is bar atmosphere. My crab cake sandwich was prefab. The fish sandwich was not great. My SIL had the butterflied shrimp had the look & taste like frozen prefab. The cucumber salad was not very good & overly sweet. Service was OK. Server dropped off the food & went to the bar to talk to the guys drinking there and did not check back to see if we needed anything. My wife had to finally go up to the kitchen area to ask for tartar sauce for the fish. Based on other reviews & a pic on their Facebook site showing what appeared to be a home made crab cake full of lump crab meat, we had high expectations, but were very disappointed. Also, the restaurant really needs to get clean menus. All menus were printed out & laminated. All were very dog-eared, torn, delaminating, and dirty. . I mean. one of the first impressions of a restaurant is the menu they hand you & these look like they were ready for the trash...

Rude bartender literally threw the menus at us, she was mad it was lunch time and we had our kids with us or something? Not sure why, there were other families in there so not sure why we weren’t “allowed”. Felt like we were discriminated against or something it was the oddest thing. I’ve never had menus thrown at me the first time ok maybe it slid on the table I’m thinking but then she threw two more at my sister and friend and I knew I didn’t make it up then. I asked her if she wanted us to leave or if everything was ok? She was so rude. No one helped us or said anything when we first walked in they all just gave us nasty looks it was very odd and uncomfortable. She complained about having to go grab more cups to get us water...I told her never mind left her a tip I now regret and we left...maybe she can buy herself a drink with it she clearly needed it! Don’t go here God forbid if you have a family...
