Alta Vina — Restaurant in Oakland

I'm so pleased to see this space continue as a wine bar, a real positive addition to the community. I had seen the "coming soon" sign and was tickled pink to encounter Henry, the delightful owner, outside as he was preparing for his soft opening.

I returned with an out of town guest as we walked to dinner and we had a lovely time sampling two wines and enjoying a full glass of a third. Henry was warm and welcoming, generously sharing his knowledge and making us feel right at home. He clearly takes pride in executing his vision elevating deserving California wines.

I visited once again the next evening because I had one of the wines on my mind and wanted to buy a bottle before he ran out of stock, and inadvertently spent another hour-plus enjoying Henry's hospitality and conversation.

This is possibly the best I’ve been treated in the Bay Area in my 3 years of living here. The owner has only been in business for five weeks, and completely exceeded our expectations. We came in here on a whim based on the ambiance we noticed walking past the location, but were overwhelmingly pleased with the service, the choice of wines, and the friendliness from our host (and owner) and the patrons. We received multiple splashes of wines that we absolutely loved and were treated like family and esteemed guests (and I noticed every single guest was treated the same). This place is definitely going to be a staple in Downtown Oakland, and I’m already contemplating when my friends and I will be back. SIX stars from me. Support local Oakland...
