Me and my cousins went to Everett and Jones last Night at 9:01pm . We waited over an hour to be seated due to our name being skipped on the wait list several times. After speaking to the waitress twice , we were finally seated. Our orders were placed and drinks were served. After waiting another 30+ minuets after our drinks were served. We asked the waitress for an ETA for our food. When she returned she advised it would be an additional 30 minuets. At this point I ask for a manager who takes no responsibility for the poor service and lack of managing the restaurant. I explain how we were skipped on the wait list and his response was “ We don’t have a hostess tonight, and that was the waitresses that made the error “ . Then I explain how we’ve waited over 40 minuets for food and was being told it would be an additional 30 minuets. He then says well it’s Saturday and it’s busy. But I’ll see what I can do for you and he never returned. We then see a young lady who was taking the initiative to get guests their food and we ask her for her help in possibly getting food. She returns in 3 minuets with out food. As we were eating my cousin saw a ROACH under our table. The surrounding staff came and verified that it was indeed a ROACH under our food table. We all got up from the table and ask for the manager , again. The manager comes to us in a joking manner and says “so I heard you had dinner with a special guest tonight. So this is what I can do. I can give y’all 50% off your bill for the inconvenience. We didn’t pay and left the food on the table and left the establishment. We had just received our food and Immediately asked for to go containers because we had been there over two hours. Needless to say. We never ate. In my opinion the manager should have assured us that the kitchen was bug free and dinner should have been on the house as well as a discount to return. I’ve been eating from this family owned business since I was a child and have never experienced such horrible service. I will be contacting the board of health and the BBB tomorrow. We also took a picture of the roach in the restaurant. I really hate to share this experience. But I’ve received better service at a drive thru than I did last night. Very...

If I could give them no stars I would do that. I came into the restaurant on New Year's eve with my mom and there was an issue with their credit card reader. We were told that all of the transactions were denied (after running our card 4-6 times) however when we checked my mom's account the transaction did indeed go through and I knew this for a fact because the machine said approved but the cashier could not provide a receipt because it didn't print. They told us the order was not placed because it was not paid for. So I used my debit card instead because the sole purpose was to get food right? Once we sat down we reviewed my moms account and low and behold of course there was a charge. They said because it wasn't the end of the business day it won't be approved because that's when transactions are pushed through. I was confused because I assumed if it didn't go through there should not be ANY transactions on my moms card but there was. So obviously something did approve right? We ended up calling the the bank my moms banks with and were told a transaction was pushed through but that they could not accept it and a refund will be issued in 5-7 business days. I have been going to this location for 10 years and I will never step foot inside it again. The owner boasted about being in business for so many years but I guess fixing the machines isn't apart of running an effective business. I would recommend dining at the location on High Street if you crave BBQ because between the ignorant owner and manager you may run into a problem when it comes to them sneaking around trying to double and triple charge you. They truly should do better and it's disappointing that this is the location that serves a city like Oakland with its diversity and instead of admitting fault the management speaks ignorantly and calls family members to be outside I guess in case theres a fight. What type of business is that? I wouldn't waste a penny on any one other than the cashiers and cooks for their dedication. Watch your wallet when if you choose to dine here! And make sure you keep your receipt in case they try...

Had heard about this restaurant on the news and since my wife is crazy about barbecue I decided to give it a try. I am breaking down my experience: Facility: It is located in an corner of an old commercial block where your options for parking are either on the street (good luck on that. There are other bars and restaurants in the area so spaces are few and far between) or some parking garage. The inside of the restaurant is kind of retro looking but very spacious. Detail: Ambient sound was way too loud. I to speak my to-go order about 4 times for the employee to understand it.

Staff: My initial interaction was with the employee at the To-go window who had difficulty to understand why questions about the size of the options on their menu and I initially felt it was an odd fluke but minutes later when I approached the counter to get my order I repeated the same question to other 3 employees and none of them had a good solid answer to the question. So it is either lack of training or disregard for what they were thought. Also I came in at the end of the afternoon and there were that many customers and what I noticed was that employees were spending more time talking to each other than carrying out their business. I worked in the restaurant industry for long time and know exactly what I am looking at.

Food: Not impressed. I ordered a combination of meat (brisket and chicken) menu option #6) and it's size, even with 2 side orders, in my opinion, is not enough to satisfy an adult. I shared my order with my wife (if you read my review of Horn Barbecue knows she is a serious carnivorous and has been working in the restaurant business for over 22 years) and she was not impressed either. If she wants barbecue I will stick to the previous barbecue restaurant. Final thought: if you live nearby and are craving for a barbecue and do not want to be on a line for about an hour (Horn) give them a try. I gave them 3 stars but they have the potential for more than that if they can work on the opportunities, that is how I see the matters listed, and keep the improvements in a consistent manner...

We were on our way to another restaurant when we passed Everett & Jones and noticed the well lit decorative restaurant on the corner. I ordered brisket and chicken combo with the sides collards and yams. The proteins were ordered dry (bbq sauce on the side). My partner ordered the brisket, ribs, and link dry, too, with the same sides. Both orders came with cornbread. The brisket was tough and slightly chewy.if I wasn't so hungry, i would have been really disappointed. As I mentioned to the staff, if it was all sliced against the grain, it would have helped. The chicken, 1/4 leg and thigh, on the other hand, was perfect tender and tasty. The bbq sauces were good. The medium was spicy enough for us to know there was spice without making it uncomfortable. The mild was not too sweet. My partners ribs were good, not great. They were cooked so that the meat didn't fall off the bone but had a slight bite. The link was dry and may have been better doused in bbq sauce. The collards are savory and could use a little spice. The yams stole the show. They were cooked perfectly, slightly mushy and perfectly seasoned with cinnamon and nutmeg. The mac and cheese was well seasoned but almost to salty. The cornbread was the bomb! More cupcakeish than traditional, but not that is not identifiable. It has enough cornmeal to remind us what it was. Service was really good but slightly slow. Since it was late night, 10:00, staff was not too busy, but it was awesome to see everyone that wasn't busy with guests cleaning EVERY inch of dining room. It gave me a level of trust that the kitchen was impeccable.Thankfully, the blues music from the room next door was enjoyable, and seeing the guests dressed to the nines was fun to watch. I don't know that I would rush back, but I may add this to my rotation of places to go

I have mixed reviews of this place. Because I've lived in the south for 19yrs... it's hard for me to say this bbq is great. I've definitely had better. However, we found the smoked sausage and baby back ribs to be pretty good. They are not stingy with the sauce... not sure if that's good or bad. Their sweet potatoes were the star of the plate for me. They were delicious. The cornbread I found to be a bit strange, more bread-like than it was corn bread and they didn't give you butter that would melt in it. The baked beans were just ok but when your food is already smothered in bbq, you really don't want your beans to taste the same. Now for the service, I really would give it a 1.5. The hostess was nice and even a server other than our own. We had a girl serving us that was obviously having a bad day. I tried being super nice and polite but she never smiled or anything. She basically threw our food down in front of us and never checked to see if we needed anything...we had to bother other employees. Then, at the end of dinner, when she was clearing the table, before we got up, she dropped the silverware and stuff in my husband's lap, turned and just walked away. No I'm sorry...no let me get you a wet napkin...nothing... he had bbq stains all over his expensive pants. For that reason, I will not recommend or return to this place.
