Narrative — Local services in Oakland

I see Narrative as an art and decor museum with things I can actually touch, and I love how often new inventory show up and how frequently the layout changes to keep the visuals fresh. It’s a great place to draw inspiration from. However, depending on your budget and what you’re looking for, a good strategy would be to do your research on the item you want, especially for furniture. They do have some very rare pieces I have not seen anywhere else before, but for most other MCM furniture, take a photo and you will likely have options on Facebook marketplace. These prices are definitely not what normal people can afford, but it’s definitely the most well curated vintage store I’ve been to in the Bay. I’ve not been able to take anything home, but it has helped me figure out what I want for me to find it elsewhere, and to identify a score at a thrift store. Insane curation of vintage furniture, art and decor located in Oakland. I frequented the shop back when it was next door and in a much smaller space. It’s now expanded to a beautiful and generous location (used to be a Bed Bath and Beyond). I went in today and loved their new space and layout.

Most curation falls under mid-century modern and Scandinavian design. Some 80s and 90s as well. Prices are on the mid to higher-end but fair, selection is similarly diverse. This place isn’t a quick-stop though, best enjoyed with time because there is just so much good stuff to look at. I purchased a set of vintage Japanese side tables that are probably my favorite pieces I own at the moment....

Great antique shop right next to Jack London square in downtown Oakland. They always have a great selection - and the items are constantly changing which makes frequent visits entertaining. I’ve purchased multiple large furniture items from them. Staff has always been helpful and friendly.

The place is also very dog friendly - and my dog always has a friend there when we go (as can be seen from the photos).

The place has also been impacted by all of the retail crime that has been hitting Oakland, so definitely great to support their...
