Mad Oak Bar ‘N’ Yard — Restaurant in Oakland

Was really excited to visit this place as it was a spot I would constantly frequent before the pandemic but how things have changed, and for the worse. First, the music was SO LOUD, I couldn't even have a conversation without practically screaming and of course, the music was awful. Not sure if the workers get to choose or the patrons through a jukebox but it was just the usual radio hits that are on repeat all day, everyday. Next, the drinks are so expensive! I ordered two cocktails that came out to nearly $45! For just TWO drinks! and before I could say never mind, the bartender was immediately making the drinks, so I ended up paying. Lastly, the TV's were just non stop sports, so unless that's your thing, then you're out of luck on that. Also, what is up with the name change? Bar 'N' Yard?? Barnyard? Really? My motorcycle collective tried out this location as a meetup spot, and while it didn't meet our needs, it is a nice spot to grab a drink and hang out with friends on their large outdoor patio. The bartending staff were all super personable and quick to fill orders. The bar menu has something for everyone but leave your cash at home (your money's no good here), electronic payment only.

Everyone in my group seemed to really enjoy the food they ordered. My mac and cheese with jalapenos was a huge portion (3 of us ate on it) and was spectacular. Definitely a bit of a younger crowd and I'm not a fan of sports viewing on giant TVs, but if that's your vibe, this place has you covered. Ample public transportation will get you there, but good...

The Oak is definitely MAD! I got a huge splinter from one of their tables upstairs. It took over a week to get it all out of my finger! I also don't like how they scan and/or copy your Driver's license when entering. No where do they do this, not even at the airport so why here? Makes no sense and I have no idea what they're using my information for? Are they selling it to a third party? Seems unnecessary and it doesn't help when the guy taking your ID doesn't know why either. Also, I suggest that you Uber to this place because they provide no security in front and the parking isn't great. Seems like an area where your car will get broken into.
