Mama T's Oakland — Restaurant in Oakland

Uptown/Downtown Oakland is growing in dive bars and regular bars with their sprinkle of dance clubs. . . all those consumption of alcohol hankers some food and in this part of Oakland where majority of food places are open during business hours there are few places open at night and one of those places is Catered to You.

I particularly was not getting my drink on, however it was getting late and I was desperately hungry. When I saw the sign out I knew I was saved!! The place is very small, like 2-3 people can be inside and their eating area is outside which consist of two small tables with a few chairs.

I ordered their fish sandwich combo, which comes with fries; it came out to be a little around $11. Since they make everything to order they told me it will take 10-15 minutes. I know seafood can be pricey so I was expecting a fish sandwich as slightly bigger than my fist because of the more than reasonable price.

The price was more than reasonable. The sandwich was huge!! You remember when Paris Hilton did that burger commercial? I felt like Paris in that commercial minus knowing I was being paid and feeling all physically exposed, yeah. . . It was GOOooooOOOoOODD!! Breaded lightly, great seasoning, and ALL FISH BABY!!! The fries were fried nicely as well.

Catered to You gets an all-star rating because for those patrons on Friday and Saturday nights after some time consuming liquid courage and losing good chunk of change from consuming liquid courage you get hungry and this place is open into the late night and for cheap.

The customer service here is horrible! As soon as I walked in that lady looked at me, huffed and puffed, and said “give me a minute” multiple times as if I came in saying or asking her anything, all I did was look at the menu. Then as I’m on the phone with my boyfriend to see what he wanted to order..she caught an attitude and waved her hand at me as if she was brushing me off to the side and called the next person.. so as I go to the counter I simply ask her is she always this rude to her customers? .. she ignored me, and I said excuse me ma’am did you hear me? And she said “I don’t have an answer for you” so at the point I’m already like forget this place.. I said how you don’t have an answer for a customer who’s paying you.. she instantly went ballistic and said I was rude for being on MY PHONE! For one, why does it matter that I’m on my phone in a public place? For two, it’s a bad thing to call and see what someone wants from their place of business nowadays? She needs to be way more professional in order to keep her business up...

Literally the best fish sandwich in the town and probably the Bay! It's always made fresh to order. She has some other awesome menu items but the fish sandwich is my go to! It's a small walkup restaurant in downtown Oakland. Con is parking is terrible downtown but it's worth the headache. Mama T's food is soooo bomb you'll usually have about a 15-20 minute wait because it's a small family run business so if you can call in advance to order it's best. Or even Grubhub! We gotta save this small gem in Oakland! We don't have a lot of successful BLACK OWNED BUSINESSES left in downtown Oakland due to rising cost of living so please stop by for Mama T's amazing fish sammich with extra sauce so we can keep her serving her community! Not only does she cater but I've frequently seen her close for the day to feed the homeless when I worked downtown! We gotta support our own!! Thank you Mama T for all you do...
