We knew the bar and went there since before the pandemic and during it we became club members to support the team. Yesterday, on Mother's Day, we we there to celebrate with our 2 little ones. We knew this place was (or used to be) family friendly as we used to go there with our eldest. Our 6 months old baby started crying (the most natural thing a baby does) as he was sleepy and tired, it lasted litterally 3 to 4 min (can understand it can seem long). While he was crying I saw the bartender seeming to be annoyed behind the bar. My husdband was taking the baby off the stroller when that same bartender came to us and "suggested" that we take the baby outside as "we can hear him in the kitchen". It was bloody windy and cold (30mph). We knew what to do to calm a baby down, we didn't need advise BUT this guy was in other words asking us to go away or that one of us does as he didn't stand the crying of a baby. There were litterally 4 people on the bar, 2 on a table and us. I don't think any of the clients complained - who would complain about a baby crying for 4 min??? That was the worst experience ever. I don't know if Dan and Lisa the owners and parents themselves are aware that babies and families are treated this way. This guy was beyind rude and we had to leave because we could NEVER stay in a place like this. And guess what, when I checked the receipt back home, he over-charged us all the HH items we ordered. Rude...
Read moreI’ve frequented many of the natural wine bars in the Bay Area and was excited to check out the Punchdown. The selection of wines is extensive, and the descriptions are delightful and helpful. Unfortunately, I found the experience itself to be quite the contrary. At other natural wine bars I’ve been to, any question is met with unrivaled enthusiasm and a desire to chat more about the wine. At the Punchdown, however, I was met with condescension and an outright incorrect answer! Furthermore, the bottle of wine I ended up purchasing cost $28. To consume the same bottle in the shop would have cost $50 (most other wine bar/retail shops only charge $5-10 corkage to drink on site). And not only that, but the identical bottle of wine sells for $17 elsewhere (both online and in San Francisco shops)! I was so disappointed by the experience, and with no lack of natural wine spots in the area, won’t be...
Read moreVery disappointed in this place. Went here with a group of 6 for the first time at around 4pm on a Friday.
Service was non existent (maybe that’s the structure?). You order everything at the bar area on your own . We sat ourselves etc. In any case, my colleague ordered a few snacks and etc. Those came out relatively quick. Then about 30 mins in, I ordered a 3-Meat Charcuterie board. I waited probably like 30 mins before I finally asked (had to go up to the counter again) and they were like “yeah our ticket system isn’t working right now but we’re getting it fixed” and it’s like why not communicate that??
The place was not busy, flies were everywhere (kept having to bat away the flies from the charcuterie, cannot imagine what their “kitchen” is like if the dining area had that many flies), and everything is overpriced. Not...
