Happy to see Oakland downtown getting cleaned up. No more walking zombies, trash, and graffiti (at least downtown). As a native Chicagoan, we have high standards for pizza. And if you're going to call yourself a Chicago pizza place (especially in California), you have big shoes to fill. That said we ordered a thin and stuffed pizza. The thin crust wasn't thin. The crust was tasty, probably too tasty, which overpowers the pizza, and the sauce a bit on the sweet side. Couldn't really taste the ingredients on the inside (I had sausage, mushroom, onion) which was a downer, because that's why you order the ingredients, to taste them! The stuffed was ok, not bad. Again couldn't really taste the ingredients. And their sausage, I dont know what that is, but it isnt Chicago style sausage. I think they boil it instead of grilling it (yuck). Overall a good Chicago pizza is super thin, and has balance between the crust, sauce, and ingredients. This didn't hit the mark. Overpowering crust with very sweet sauce. On the bright side, nice modern place with clean bathrooms (when a business takes care of its bathrooms, it usually takes care of everything else). Service was very good. Staff was always around and attentive. This review is critical, but if you're going to call yourself Chicago pizza you'd better be ready to get criticized lol. No pics because we were super...
Read moreThere's only a few pizza places I will actually get pizza from in the Bay area. Zachary's hands down is one of them. This is the first time I've eaten at this location usually I go to the one on College Ave. I went to their website and pre-ordered the pizza online. They use the toast app which I'm sure they don't get the full amount but it was just easier for me to do it this way. I really don't like using third-party apps because they get into the business's profit and it hurts them a lot more during the pandemic. But at least do this app you can also leave a tip with the employees. part of the office away from each other. it's really hard for me to choose just one pizza but we went with a carne pizza. We've done parties at work where I'll order three or four different types of pizza for 20 people. And two slices will definitely fill up a person with an average stomach. If you're a big eater you probably get three slices in because the slices are so thick and full...
Read moreSo excited Zachary's opened this location on Grand. Now I can take a 15mins walk there instead of a +10mins drive over to the College Ave location :)
Update 9/29/21, just had lunch with my brother at the Grand location and it was GREAT - very friendly staff, place was clean and cozy. Def going here from now on - sweet not having to go 2x the distance to the College Ave location :D We called about 25mins before getting there and they were great to start baking a large deep dish for us, so it was basically ready out of the oven by the time we sat down!
I've had deep dish pizzas before, at other restaurants in CA and in the 'home' of deep dish pizza Chicago, and Zachary's is still my fav! Seriously, don't waste your time and money on anything but the deep dish style here - best is the chicken basil (the "Chicken Special"). Glad they are doing Happy Hour specials on...
