Shogun Japanese Sushi & Grill — Restaurant in Oakland

1.) I had originally planned on going to another place but they closed early so I decided to try Shogun Sushi for the first time in my life(Been living in this neighborhood close to 40 years). Ever since I went to Japan and came back to try sushi places I had lost faith in alot of them due to a lack of freshness, etc. BUT TONIGHT, THESE PEOPLE CHANGED MY MIND, AND COOKED THIS FRESH TASTING MEAL WITH LOVE😍 2.) FOOD: Ordered the veggie sushi and miso soup and it was fresh, flavorful and beautifully plated😁 I had an upset stomach when I got there and my stomach was healed and back in business by the time I started tasting this flavorful fresh food! Shot out to the cook! The miso soup instantly warmed my stomach lining, the veggie sushi was decadent, and I was back up and in business in no time!😋 3.) THE SERVICE: The lady server was so kind to me and understood me when I explained that I did not have enough to tip(meal was right on with what I had and worth every penny). Instead of being cold, she was compassionate towards me and now I cant wait to go back and tip and get more food! The service at this restaurant was 5 star and that is just something I dont see alot even in this neighborhood. They were happy to be at work, and treated me as though I was a special customer even though it was my first time coming in for takeout. I am so impressed!! Shot out to the lady server who took my order. Thank you for your genuine kindness😍🙏🏿 4). OVERALL: The food actually gave me happy feelings after eating it which is what told me the chef cooked with love. I will be going back immediately as soon as I get more cash and I will be buying and trying more dishes. Not sure how I could've missed this place before🤔 But I sure am glad the Lord allowed the other place to close early and sent me to Shogun tonight. What a blessing😁🙏🏿 5.) ATMOSPHERE: I want to add that I liked the fact that everyone was wearing a mask, I cant tell you the restaurants I have seen these days with masks around their chin, these folks had mask standards, friendliness standards, fresh food standards, and Im 100% here for that!😁 Also, though they had a handful of doordash orders, my meal came out in exactly the amount of time she said it would be(she said 6 minutes, and thats all it took for mine)😁 6.) Came here on a Sunday night around 9:30. The place was not super busy but had a couple of customers dining. First time here and tried it out because it was open til midnight.

The boyfriend and I ordered hot sake, scallops and tuna tartar, and three different rolls of sushi. We were also given free vegetarian egg rolls while we dined. We enjoyed the three different rolls of sushi. They were not too big, where you couldn't eat it but not too small either where you feel like, I'm paying how much for this little piece? It wasn't bombarded with sauces and it wasn't bland either. I approve and will come back for the variety of rolls offerred.

The four was because I was disappointed with how late the tartar arrived. The tartar is an appetizer and was the last item to come out. It was a piece of scallop inside a wine glass and a piece of tuna drizzled in sauce. Presentation was beautiful but definitely not worth the $12.

What I do enjoy about Shogun is their presentation of their rolls. Each roll was presentated beautifully with an orchid alongside the rolls. The first time for me and I've been to numerous sushi restaurants. It made me feel like I was at a high end restaurant.

Service was good. Didn't feel like my waitress was bothering me constantly but she wasn't slow either.

Definitely will be coming back whether for dinner or late...

Their food may be awesome, but the way I was treated was not acceptable at all. They have policy restrooms are only for the customers. That is certainly fair. I work for food delivery as a second job, I am your customer. I had to use the restroom really bad and they told me it will take another 15mins until the food is ready. So I asked if I could use the restroom, and he kept telling me no all though I am with a food delivery company. Never had this problem with any other restaurant. So I rejected the order. They did this to me before but it was during the pandemic. The first guy said no they did not have restrooms but I clearly see people dining in going to the restroom, the second guy said well no if do not have your vaccination, I pulled it out now can I go so they let me then but they just lied.
