A true mom and pop. Ma was running the register and pops was in the back cooking. I enjoyed the large screen playing peaceful videos of sharks swimming. Everyone working was friendly and helpful. We wanted to compare with Five guys, so my husband got Five guys and I got Jaws JUMBO burgers. When it came to taste side by side they are very similar. Five guys is definitely tangier. Jaws burgers are juicy but not WET. Five guys burgers can be so wet and by the end its just a soggy blob. Jaws jumbo burger held up well but it was tender and crumbled in my mouth. Just wish I got a single as I really did underestimate the Jumbo description. Jaws burgers are bigger than Five guys (Which makes it so you dont need as many fries). Speaking of fries, Five guys of course gives you a larger portion than Jaws. Five guys has more flavor as you can get Cajun seasoning. I find that Five guys fries are always soggy though. Jaws fries were hot and CRISPY the entire meal. My husband placed a mobile order for Five guys that I picked up. I still waited while being ignored for about 15 mins then had to wait an extra 5 mins for fries. I placed an order in person at Jaws Jumbo burgers and only waited about 10mins.They even made sure I had ketchup, salt packets, and napkins in the bag. Over all for the value and taste of food I'd just support the local business. You can tell they really do enjoy their jobs and this is their dream. When I tell you good food is hard to come by in this town, it is. This...
Read moreI suspect these folks buy fake reviews. They have a ton of 5-star reviews from people who only have 1-10 reviews to their credit and who only write 5-star reviews. That's a sign a review farm has been used. A real reviewer will have lots of reviews, and they won't all be 5-star.
This place has all sorts of things going for it. Very nice people. Very clean; most Ocala restaurants are filthy. Quality ingredients. Obvious passion. Great fries. But they should change a few things. There are some issues that would keep me from returning.
Take credit cards. Other restaurants do it and end up making a lot more money, even after paying credit card fees. It brings more people in. These days, people will go next door to avoid the hassle of cash.
Get rid of the tip jar. If you own the restaurant, people should not be tipping you, and tipping is not for restaurants where you go to a counter to order food and then carry it to your table.
Use ground chuck instead of sirloin. Sirloin sounds great, but it's dry and crumbly. Ground chuck makes better burgers and costs less.
Don't mash the burgers so thin.
Serve the burgers and buns HOT. Mine had cooled off before I got it.
Bring prices down to the level of your competitors. People can always go across the street.
I hope these suggestions will help increase profits so this restaurant will be here for...
Read moreCASH ONLY. I drive back and forth between ATL and Wildwood, FL every month or so. With fast food prices rising (a double QP with cheese is $6.80), I want good food over fast food on my trip. Jaws Jumbo Burgers has been lurking in the 4.5+ review waters for a bit and I finally dove in. The sweetest couple (Darryl and Yolanda) has captained Jaws for 40+ years, sailing their restaurant from MI to TN and, finally, to FL. I was advised that these burgers are not built for eating on the go in the rough waters of I-75; but like all horror movie victims, I ignored the good advice and the result was blood (ketchup) on my shirt. I recommend getting bitten by Jaws Jumbo Burgers
FOOD - I opted for the double with cheese and fries. According to Yolonda, these are the fries that McD used when their fries were great. She ain't lyin'. Fries were crisp and delicious. The fresh ground burger was juicy and delicious.
PRICE - To my earlier point, Jaws is a Value. Value = Quality + Service + Price. The single burger (which would have been enough for me) was about $8, with cheese being a little extra. Why would I give McD $2 less for a 2 star meal.
AMBIANCE - Apparently, 40+ allows you to accumulate some shark memorabilia to share with Ocala. Also, a JUMBO TV takes you on an underwater adventure...
