Found this place on Maps on our way driving through headed to Longboat. My wife wanted some great Greek food, and this place delivered! First of all, our waitress Martha was so warm and hospitable to my wife and I. She made us feel like we were right at home! We ordered the Tzatziki sauce that came with fresh, warm toasted pita bread, for an appetizer. Both our meals came with salads, and the dressing was so refreshing. My wife ordered Roasted Leg of Lamb with potatoes. This tasted like somebody's Grandma was in the back and had prepared her speciality with all her TLC! It was presented so beautifully and was so flavorful, perfectly seasoned and extremely tender and moist! The portion was generous and we left with half to go! I ordered the Shrimp and Clam Linguine. Again, the presentation was beautiful, and the taste even better! The pasta and seafood were cooked exactly perfect, and seasoned so as well. The most amazing balance of fresh garlic, herbs and olive oil! Such comfort food!! Both of our meals came with the best garlic loaf, to soak up all the goodness on our plates and bowls. We could taste the butter and garlic, unlike some other places. We ended our meals with baklava cheesecake and chocolate mousse. Both were wonderful, as well! We'd definitely return if we're coming through this area! Such a treat all the way around. Thank you for a special experience. We didn't even mention that we were celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary, but I don't think the service could have been any better,...
Read moreOkay so, I thought I hated Greek food because of an aweful experience at a county fair with a Gyro. My sister had been asking to go so I finally went thinking i could at least get a salad. Gyro King had just opened in Dunnellon and reviews were good. So, unfortunately I didn't check their hours of operation before driving there. They are closed on Sunday so we decided to give Lakis a try.
My sister ordered Spanakopita as an appitizer. I gave it a try and could have just kept eating that and called it a day. She ordered a gyro and a greek salad...I will never eat another gyro so I ordered the the Atenian pasta which came with a greek side salad and a garlic bread. First, I'm certain it was my lunch today, dinner tonight and likely my lunch tomorrow too, the portion was just way more than one person could, or at least should eat.
Anyway, it was some of the most delicious food I've had since we moved here in 2014. Go figure, it's a place I never would have tried without my sister prodding me. If you haven't been there give them a try your taste buds will thank you.

Read moreLakis is a solid 3.5 star restaurant, but as usual I like to round up. This restaurant is your typical local non-metropolitan restaurant. Is it the most authentic? Not necessarily. Is it the freshest, highest quality ingredients? Probably not. Did it taste good and fill me up for a decent price? Yes.
I got the gyro salad, and while the lettuce was basically shredded iceberg out of a bag, it was plentiful and filling. There was also a ton of similarly shredded ham in addition to the gyro meat on the top - a lot of satiating protein for only $11. I got some tzatziki on the side. It had good flavor and texture: garlicky, thick, and creamy. My friend got the potato side, which consisted of lemon and herb seasoned potato wedges soaked in olive oil, and the feta salad.
Overall it was nothing special, but at the same time, I couldn't complain about much except for maybe the lettuce in the salad. Other than that, the restaurant is good considering the location; Ocala isn't the epicenter of ethnic food experiences and cutting edge cuisine, so I am grateful for some flavors other than...
