Please be advised: Layton's Family Restaurant is not inclusive of all families: I debated sharing this but realized I needed inform my community of the potential humiliation lying within: I called this restaurant a few minutes before 12 pm (website states they close @12 pm) seeking donuts. The male who answered was kind and informed me I did indeed have time to drop by for the purchase. Upon arrival, my six year old daughter and I stood at the counter, wallet in hand, for over 7+ plus minutes as at least four different staff members looked at us and walked on by without a smidgen of acknowledgement. A few moments later, a Caucasian family of 3 walks in behind us (mind you it's 12:17 pm). The waitress bolts pass my daughter and I, addresses and seats them immediately. When I informed the waitress of her actions, another staff member chimed in by asking me, "Did I ask for help?" "Clearly if I am standing at the counter with my wallet in my hand, I need help. My presence in your restaurant should let you know I need help. Hate to say it but y'alls dismissiveness of me and my child screams racism." With that, we walked we out of the restaurant and I kept my monies in my pocket. The heartbreaking thing was I had to explain to my six year old daughter why we were ignored/overlooked when we were smiling and looking pretty in our pink dresses 😢. Racism consistently rears it's ugly head even in the most innocent of situations. While y'all might be tired of 'hearing' about it, WE are tired of...
Read moreWe haven't been here in the last 3+ years. On this most recent visit in May, went here for breakfast..What a let down. Highly disappointed, so much has changed from the quality of food, outrageous prices, to the attitude from our server Amanda. 2 eye opener plates and one coffee and one hot tea.. $38. Waitress never came back to check anything after she took the order, except to bring the coffee and hot tea..i had then asked if she could bring some regular sugar as there was only artificial sweetener on the table. She never came back, ever...someone else brought out the food, I had to ask them for the sugar and she gave me 2 packets. Really? Amanda was checking on other tables and seeing if other people needed more refills...we got nothing! They weren't even crazy busy this morning. Food was NOT worth the price, home fries were burnt, food was barely warm. I don't know what's happened here, but WOW how this place has changed! Never would have expected this experience here. We used to go here everytime we were in town. Highway robbery ..3.50 for a cup of hot water and tea bag! Insane! It's not about the money if the quality is there, but this just sucked all around from the food to...
Read moreThis place has good food and good service. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because we felt that the tables & chairs in the middle section of the restaurant weren't very comfortable. The seats swivel and are attached to the tables by a hard metal bar. The seat itself is wooden and rounded and digs into your backside no matter how you sit in it- and no matter how big your backside is, lol. Those seats are just super hard and the shape of them is super uncomfortable. I can't believe they haven't had a ton of complaints about this in the past. Paying Customers should be comfortable sitting in a chair during a meal. Period. My other smaller complaint is that the window seats were super bright anywhere you're seated along the window section- and yes, obviously if you have a window seat it's going to be bright, but being blinded by the glass from other businesses or by cars driving by outside is just ridiculous. I'm not trying to totally knock this place, the food and service was good, but the atmosphere was just awkward and uncomfortable for a place you're coming to sit down and have a nice meal at. Time for a few upgrades guys......
