Schooners Restaurant — Restaurant in Ocean City

This restaurant is in the Princess Royale building, which is one of our favorite hotels in Ocean City. It's a shame that this restaurant isn't as good in our opinion. We went to this restaurant two years ago and thought it was decent, with some good happy hour food specials. During our stay here this time we went to this place to eat on a Friday evening, but ended up leaving soon after we were seated (so we can't comment on the food this time). The bar area and dining room only had a handful of tables and no one waiting. We were seated in the dining area and I asked about the happy hour specials. The server told me that we couldn't order them in the "dining room", just the "bar area", which seemed odd, because the areas aren't really separated that much and neither area was busy at all. I asked if we could just move to sit in the bar area then and she said we couldn't because we had kids under 21 years old (5 and 3), but she would check to see if we could order from the bar menu too. The server checked with a manager who begrudgingly said it would be okay for us to order from the bar menu, but said she would be bending the rules and we would have to order from the bar and have a separate bill and our server wouldn't be compensated for the food from the bar menu. We felt uncomfortable and not very welcomed after making this request, so we ended up leaving and going elsewhere to eat. The bar is nice and the bartenders (outdoor bar as well) were very friendly they get 5 stars. The drinks we ordered were very good. I had a piña colada and malibu barbie. They were both delicious. My boyfriend had the Bermuda Sunrise, pear martini, Deep Eddy Pick, and a vanilla coke. He enjoyed them as well. The reason for the 3 stars is the restaurant. Our server was nice but the service was so slow despite there being very few people eating during breakfast. My sausage came out cold but the breakfast potatoes were good. We waiting a long time for our check even thought our server had taken our plates. She was sitting in the back for a long time, my boyfriend could see her from our table. Room service was timely but the nachos I got were cold and somewhat hard by the time they got to our room. Convenient to eat here but quality isn't great. Friendly...

Service was poor. Several other parties were complaining as well, specifically about wait times, cost and food. Non-alcoholic beverages we're $5 a piece including a cup of coffee and a children's apple juice. To add salt to the wound, the waitress brought my daughter an apple juice when we asked for a orange juice. When we informed her of the mistake, we were charged for both. The restaurant was not crowded, so the lack of attention by the wait staff, excessive delay for a breakfast preparation, and cost of food is a head scratcher. I have fond memories of this restaurant as a kid tagging along on conferences my father attended at the Princess Royale... It's definitely changed for the worse. With so many options to eat in Ocean City, I'd avoid this establishment (for breakfast at least) as you can get much better food and service for your...
