I am new to the area and was told this was a fine dining restaurant, so we booked a table for our anniversary on June 7th.
I had such high hopes and sadly we left very disappointed.
First, the location is awkward to get to which isn't a crime, but be prepared. Once you turn in, it's hard to tell where to go.
Once we figured it out, you walk across this lovely walkway with a tree growing up and it feels very enchanting which made me hopeful.
The front door was cheap looking and tacky, like a Denny's at best. When you walk in you're looking at a short wall with an entry table that holds tacky saint statues and knickknacks. Not one greeted is, but a worker was emptying the trash to the right in full view. Worker didn't acknowledge us. Once we were greeted it seemed they were irritated by us needing to be seated.
Once seated, you'll notice thin cheap paper placemats, and dishware that looked like a cafeteria grade.
The wait staff in general was dressed a bit shabby. None were particularly friendly. From my seat I could see dirty AC ceiling vents back in the prep area. I could see spray bottles of cleaners with dirty rags on top next to pitchers used for water refills.
The place doesn't open till 5, not sure why they can't clean and put away supplies before they open.
I ordered the stuffed flounder, my husband got the ribeye steak medium rare. While ordering was offered to upgrade my side to asparagus for $4, upgrade to gumbo for $4... Felt tacky that in fine dining asparagus was considered an upgrade?! I got a good of red wine that was decent and not overpriced. Hubby's beer was also reasonable priced.
Took about 35 min to get our soup and salad. Another 20 min to get our mains. My flounder was dry, the crab stuffing was soupy wet. Like wet crab soaked dressing. The cauliflower side tasted ok, but was greasy and felt like something you'd serve at BBQ not fine dining. The twice baked potato tasted like fake bacon and sour cream. Didn't feel gourmet or elegant.
Steak was a bit overcooked, served on a cheap plate with dried parsley sprinkled on top for garnish. The steak was curled up, which means it was too cold when it went on the grill. The taste was ok, but nothing exceptional.
The bread basket served at the start was delicious.
The bill was $120. I barely took 2 bites out of each dish. Server didn't bother to ask about it.
I couldn't recommend this to anyone and we will not return. Just not anything worth the...
Read moreThe food was very good, but for the price, I would expect no less. The oyster sampler was 19.99 for only 6. Locally, even the other fine dining establishments serve them by the dozen for a little more. The low rating may be unfair but it's because I probably won't be back. Our overall experience was disappointing. We went on a Tuesday evening just after 5. There was only one table occupied by 3 people. We asked if we could sit at a table by the window and were told "no". We looked around and asked again, saying any table would do. The very young man said "no, we only have one other table available for a party of your size (my husband and I) and it's reserved." Really!? We were disappointed as those tables had a view and the sun was setting. We were disappointed that the rearranging of a couple of chairs was just too much trouble when they had ONE occupied table in the entire place! As we were leaving we noticed there were two occupied tables and the one we wanted was never used. I mentioned it to the waitress and she said they had "rules and there wasn't a manager there for him to ask about it". That only made me more confused. I prefer restaurants with a friendlier atmospheres and more concerned about making people feel comfortable, especially after seeing the $120 price tag that included one appetizer and no...
Read moreAnthony's was really good. The atmosphere is very nice and it's a quiet, clean restaurant. I appreciated that they sat us near the window so we had a lovely view of the water. Things we loved- the bread. The bread is just a plain, sliced baguette but it was served warm and with a delicious butter. We loved the crunch and it definitely just as good as any baguette you can get in France. The steak au poivre was fantastic. The red wine sauce complemented the steak, which was done perfectly medium rare. Things that were good but didn't blow us away: the grouper topped with spinach and fried shrimp and fried oyster. It was good, but I thought it paled in comparison to the great flavor and sauciness of the steak. Maybe if it had a cream sauce. I'm not sure. The fried crab claws did not impress. I thought they would be more delicious if sautéed in a garlic sauce, but it's not my menu. I didn't like the salad at all. They can do better. I prefer my salad in a bowl and with more greens. Overall, delicious food and we'd be back. Our only complaint was the the waitress, who was very, took too long with our check. When she did come, she gave us the wrong bill. She apologized and fixed the situation, so all was well. As I said, ...
