On Friday October 4, 2024 at approximately 1:00 pm my family decided to try Broome's Buffet for lunch. It it was raining and I was taking my 81 and 82-year-old parents along with my 3-year-old grandson and my 7-year-old service dog to lunch. I dropped my parents off at the door. They went inside, paid, and got a table. I parked and got my grandson and my dog out of the car and entered the restaurant. The man at the cash register started waving at me as I walked to my parents' table. He told me " I am not having any dog in MY restaurant. Especially one that big". He proceeded to show me a sign with a green check mark that said service dogs welcome. I informed him that he was indeed a service dog and he was specifically trained for mobility, balance, and fall alert. I attempted to explain federal law and the Americans with Disabilities Act to him, and his response was, "I am not debating this with you. Leave!". He then brought another gentleman out to try to physically intimidate us. Ultimately, we were forced to leave.
According to ada.gov:
A person with a disability cannot be asked to remove his service animal from the premises unless: (1) the dog is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it or (2) the dog is not housebroken. When there is a legitimate reason to ask that a service animal be removed, staff must offer the person with the disability the opportunity to obtain goods or services without the animal’s presence.
There was no legitimate reason to ask that my service animal and my entire family be removed. My hope Is that this business be educated on appropriate ADA law and that no one else has to have this experience.
I cannot speak to the quality of the food because my parents left all of their food on the table as they had already served themselves. I can speak to the service which was atrocious. The building itself was large enough and it was not...
Read moreI have lived in Ocean Springs most of my life and recall when this used to be the supermarket we frequented long before the 'big box' chain stores. Broomes has had many iterations over the years in various locations across Ocean Springs and the surrounding area. Today (05.10.2023) happened to be the first opportunity to try out this 'version' of Broomes because I work out of town most of the week.
I had an excellent experience today. It is a basically a 'buffet' style and you pay before you eat. If you would like to take a container to go it is purchased by the pound. You serve yourself from the buffet and get your own drink.
The food was all excellent. The fried fish and chicken were exactly as I like it. I had a sample of everything that was available and was quite pleased. See the pictures from my visit for the selections of that day. Brantley had mentioned it ebbs and flows slightly on what was available and there is a 'special' just about every day of the week.
Five stars for me and I...
Read moreThe cashier wasn’t very friendly. The roast was absolutely amazing. Never tasted a better roast anywhere. Didn’t get the name of the only guy running around cleaning up and serving drinks. He was great, friendly, smiling and even though it was busy he kept checking in on us and clearing our dirty plates. The carrots, corn, cabbage and meat pie we’re really tasty too. Only thing that I didn’t really like was the mash potatoes, they were instant and too salty. The gravy was good. The Mac and cheese was not good, didn’t get to try the dressing because I couldn’t find the cranberry sauce. The cheese cake was really good, the best I’ve ever tasted down here. The ice cream and bread pudding were tasty. The banana pudding had too much cream but it was good. I ate way too much and I haven’t enjoyed a buffet meal in a long time. My husband and son really enjoyed the catfish. Oh almost forgot the fried chicken is better than Popeyes, not a big...
