I recently visited the new Crackheads in Oceanside with five friends and two kids. My initial reaction was the immense amount of sand everywhere (see attached photo). If you have kids, be prepared for sand. I can imagine what the designers were going for—the “bring the beach to the restaurant” vibe—but it felt like a hit or miss. The sand was everywhere—on the grassy area, the seats, the tables. Everywhere.
After entering, I found a table and patiently waited for a server, but no one came. I recommend a sign clearly stating that there is no table service and that all orders must be placed at the bar. It’s best not to assume that customers will automatically understand that when they sit down, no one will come to take their order. At this point, I decided to go up to the bar to grab a drink. The wait was long (around eight minutes) before I got the bartender’s attention. I was surprised there were only two bartenders working on a busy Saturday afternoon.
Despite the long wait, when the bartender greeted me, she was attentive and kind. She was incredibly busy but made a point to give me her full attention and even waited as I grabbed my friends’ drink orders. I appreciated this. Our drinks were solid. We ordered three mezcal margaritas, two hazy IPAs, and a blonde ale. We were all satisfied and had no complaints about our drinks. We didn’t eat at Crackheads but were surprised by the variety of options they had. Overall, I would recommend this place but would advise people to be aware of the sand and expect possible long waits. Drinks are great and nice ambiance, but you will...
Read moreWe tried the taco place for Taco Tues. We had a fish taco and a pork taco. Wasn’t a fan of the pineapple on the taco but they were good overall. Regular size tacos for $5 each. The watermelon Fresca drink was delicious. We also had a simple bean and cheese burrito. It’s large sized, perfect for kids to share. Chips and guacamole were very good as well. It’s self serve, plastic and paper, so nothing special there. Picnic tables and some chair circles sitting in white sand w fake turf. That’s about it. The bar was empty until someone yelled out and said to come up if we wanted anything. We didn’t. Yes it’s kid and dog friendly but the only “game” for kids is corn hole and nothing else unless they think digging in dirty sand is fun for kids. Maybe they mean kid friendly as kids and run all around while parents drink. Overall It’s just ok. Convenient if you live nearby and want different food options. We’ve also had the Thai food and liked it very much. Not a drinker so can’t comment on...
Read moreWent there for the first time this past weekend after my son’s football game. Saturday 6/7 around 8pm we ordered the Tom Yum Ramen. Cashier lady was really unfriendly for some reason. Not sure if she was having a bad day or just hates her job. I assumed she was the owner. I also did tip 20 percent on my order. Ramen Tom Yum was the worst I’ve ever had. Bland and no flavor. Noodles were really soggy. Later that night I went back to her asking where the trash can is (I also had my plastic food tray which I thought she’d need to take back) to throw my food away before leaving. For some reason she looked irritated and just pointed to a trash bag on the side with a mean face and walked away back into the kitchen. Not sure if other people had the same experience with her poor customer service but I for sure won’t be ordering...
