Vital Oceanside is a very good spot for anyone looking to hop on a few boulder problems or get a good workout. The community is very healthy and supportive which is exactly what I look for in a climbing gym. I really appreciate that new problems are set regularly at this gym which has been an issue at other gyms I’ve seen in the past.
Gym is open 24/7 for members which is very cool for anyone working non-standard hours.
At the time of writing this review a monthly membership is $85 and a pre-paid annual turns out to $70.83/month. A day pass is $26. 5 day punch passes are $120 ($24 per session) 10 day punch passes are $230 ($23 per session). When you get access to the gym either through a membership, day pass, or punch pass you get access to EVERYTHING. I’m talking yoga classes, aerial (silks + Lyra), fitness classes, access to gym equipment, and well stocked drinks/snacks you can get a la carte.
Here’s the deal for my recommendation: Anyone who is looking to learn how to climb can get definitely do so at this gym with the community, coaches, and setters that are always hanging around. BUT as far as pricing goes I highly HIGHLY recommend taking advantage of any of the classes. With the pricing outlined you would need to go to the gym at least 4 times in a month (at the non-annual rate) to make the value slightly less than a day pass. I’d say pay the $85 for 1 month for unlimited access to everything and go to some of the classes for the most bang...
Read moreMay 2024: I've been to this climbing gym twice now. My first visit was about 6 or 7 months ago, but the location hasn't changed much, in a good way. The climbs here are really interesting. They do the tag system here but it's not as wide of a range as I've seen at other gyms. From what I can tell, they seem to be fairly accurate with the rating. They tend to use volumes really well on some of the walls, and their cave section offers unique betas that I haven't seen in the other gyms I've been to yet. The location is always clean, staff is very helpful and friendly, they have a parking lot as well as street parking, and two fitness areas as well as a yoga room. Vital also has a top out wall that's rounded, so it's pretty interesting trying to climb over and eventually down it. The day pass is 24 dollars, which is slightly more expensive than the other Vital locations in Carlsbad and Murrieta. This place does offer a lot, and I highly recommend stopping by to check it out if you're in the area! They have a shower, and towels are available for purchase if you don't have your own. Plus, there's lots of taco restaurants and bars nearby if you're planning an...
Read moreCould not give a more glowing review. I have been going for almost 2 years. This was my first time climbing and I still remember that day, I remember the staff member I met first and we take bi weekly. I remember a member who I will always remember as an inspiration. I joined the team which taught me the basics and brought me a community. The staff is very friendly and it doesn’t take much to make friends. The community there is wonderful. I have only met ~4 people who have been unpleasant in all of my interactions. The area is wonderful with amazing restaurants across, and to the right of (bagby brew co.) with the occasional motor cycle. (AND I HAVEN’T EVEN GOT TO THE WALLS) with a simple workout area, Ariel silk, slack line, and yoga, the instructors are great and nice. The walls are very challenging (I’m small) and will always interest you. The climb holds are changed out and fun. Very fun cave, simple top out bolder, ‘iceberg’ wall, and a slab+30^o wall, plenty to work on.
Honestly vital will always be special to me even with little cons to it. But I will always be happy about what it has done!
Don’t bother watching all the videos, I...
