Today we are celebrating preschool back in sesh 😂 so we came over to Tremont Street in Oceanside for #tacos and #beer over @shootzfishxbeer
Their menu changes daily based on their fresh catch, but you can find tacos, poke, sushi, musubi and other great noms on their menu. And their selection of beers -- omg! So many on tap, plus a market selection to buy to bring home for later!
I love that they give an option for 4oz pours, so if you're a lightweight like me, you won't feel wasteful. Or you can try multiple options that way, kinda like building your own flight at $2-$4 per beer. I tried the Blueberry Cobbler Muffin, and it really did taste like a dessert with slight sour blueberry notes. Stephen got the Bandon, which was a rich coffee flavored Irish stout.
Today's catch was Opu, so we tried that in the fish taco and it was so good. It's a more buttery fish, and they seasoned it so nicely so the fresh original fish flavor still came through. The baja style shrimp taco had such a nice beer batter too. One of the specials today was a kalua pork sando using bread from their neighbors @hokkaido_bread_company and we added fried jalapeños to it. Perfectly smoky, juicy kalua just the way I love it.
They have seating out front and inside too, but their back patio is really nice. Would be nice to hang out there with friends over drinks in the summer. We definitely want to go back...
Read moreAww man, I want to give this 5 stars. We used to LOVE shoots when it opened. But around the time they expanded and opened the tin can place on the pier and the location in Carlsbad this place has been going downhill food-wise. The portions have shrunk by at LEAST 50% - not an exaggeration. The fish is sometimes 1.5oz vs a solid 4-5oz fillet previously.
That said we still come back from time to time in the hopes it was a temporary fluke, and when we are disappointed we take time away again.
I'm writing this review finally because tonight I had the smallest fillet they've ever given me on a pescado taco and it was half not cooked :( now we brought it back after our beach dinner and they replaced it which I respect and am grateful for, but this is the kind of thing these days I expect from the kitchen unfortunately.
The girls at the register are great and service in that sense is generally good! We also love the folks at bottle craft even though they're not affiliated. We miss the older guy that used to run the register. He was so nice.
We live a few blocks away so we will keep trying to give it a chance time and again but I desperately hope the owner gives it some attention again because it used...
Read moreShootz is amazing. Great food, locally sourced and very fresh.
Had the Baja style shrimp taco, musubi, bacon mac salad, and furikake poki. Each item was very flavorful and well executed. The portions are very small. When we were done I couldn't help but think that I could have ordered alot more, because it was SO good. But was grateful that we didn't later because we would have been over stuffed!
Bottlecraft shares the space so there are hundreds of great beers available. Also, there's a cool outdoor back patio that is dog friendly.
Unfortunately there were not many non-alcoholic drink options for my teenage son. Just a couple craft soda and lemonade options, since bottlecraft is the beverage supplier for Shootz.
Was also very pricey food for the portion sizes. But hey, I guess you get what you pay for because food was top notch. Service was also good and very friendly staff all around. If I could afford to, I'd eat here multiple times a week! Will definitely...
