Submarina Oceanside West — Restaurant in Oceanside

I just visited this sandwich shop and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience—so much so that my family and I walked out without ordering. This used to be one of my favorite spots, and I even convinced my family to give it a try today. Sadly, it’ll probably be our last visit.

When we arrived, the young man working behind the counter didn’t greet us, even after we stood there waiting for about five minutes. He was busy with prep tasks, which at first seemed routine—but what we observed next raised serious concerns.

He was refilling the lettuce container, but instead of using fresh ingredients, he picked up loose pieces from the counter and added them to the serving bin. That was questionable, but what followed was worse: he washed his hands quickly, without soap, then put on new gloves. After disappearing into the back briefly, he returned rubbing his shirt and face, scraped debris off the counter with his bare hand, caught it in the other, and dumped it into the lettuce container again.

At that point, we told him this was extremely unsanitary. He and another staff member simply nodded and said nothing. No apology, no corrective action.

We left immediately and won’t be returning. I hate to leave a negative review, but I can’t recommend this place given what...

Needless to say, I'm never going back to this Submarina again. Neither of those 2 should be making $20 an hour. Slow, unfriendly, place was uninviting.

I should have just walked out when I saw the long line. No one was being greeted when they walked in. There was a person waiting for door dash and when I started to get closer to the order counter. 2 people left. Even waiting I had my order online for urban café. I should have just sent yes because it took about the same about of time. Plus I really wanted submarina.

I was about to order my toppings and the cashier(kid) was ringing up the lady in front of me with cash and touching the register. Does he change his gloves?? Of course not. Roast beef dip was tasteless and au jus tasted bad. Roasted chicken with avocado was not programmed in the register so we got charged extra. After arguing with us they finally gave a refund. Drinks paid for only to find out after when we went to fill them that they had no ice. The staff (two ladies) didn’t appear to really know what they were doing. Needless to say, my first experience will probably be my last.

Subway or Jersey Mike’s will likely be my future choice.
