We used to go to Mullens years ago when the only location was in Watertown. This time, we stumbled across another Mullens, right next door to the restaurant where we had lunch. There’s no indoor dining here, but you can take your order to-go and enjoy it at one of the tables overlooking Lake Fowler (though I do wonder what happens in winter or bad weather!).
There were two of us, and we each ordered a special Hot Fudge Sundae — one Swiss and the other Turtle. We were served by a friendly young woman who was helpful and efficient. Our sundaes arrived quickly and were just as delicious (maybe even more so) than what we remembered. The hot fudge was luxurious, the caramel rich, the pecans nicely roasted and salted, and the ice cream creamy and smooth — just the perfect combination. To top it all off, there was whipped cream and a cherry. Can’t beat that!
So glad we stopped in — it was a great reminder of how good a small, local ice cream...
Read moreBeautiful spot right on the lake. A lot of seats and tables, I'm pretty sure are provided by Oconomowoc. Nonetheless, they are very lucky to have this location because based on their mediocre tasting ice cream treats any other location unlike this might not keep them in business. From our experiences there we have usually had the younger generation taking and preparing our order. Depends who makes your order...one might think two Oreos is enough to blend in a Large shake, and then another might think 10 Oreos work out better in a Large shake. We have had that happen and ended up having one of them remade(bet you can't guess which one). In my opinion, if there was consistency with the amount of toppings they put in your shake or Sundae I wouldn't be so hard on the review in this area. I do suggest you try them out though. They have a lot of...
Read moreI'm on a mission to try local ice cream places we've never tried before and Mullen's Dairy Bar won this time! It's in downtown Oconomowoc and we had trouble finding it initially. It's actually behind a restaurant so you can find it by taking a sidewalk or this fun colorful stained glass path back there. You walk up to the window via a wooden ramp. They have lots of choices and sizes. My kids got single sugar cones of ice cream and Mullen's has about 15-20 flavors to choose from. My husband got the Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich. I got the Key Lime Pie White Chocolate Macadamia Cookie Sandwich (this may have been a special at this time). Everything was delicious and I sadly forgot to take pictures! After we got our ice cream we went to sit at one of the many tables by the lake. Definitely check this place out if you want a local ice...
