My feeling is that this restaurant is serves some of the best Indian Food north of Salt Lake. Really good customer service and delicious, authentic South Indian food. For people new to Indian food, I would suggest the Chicken tikka masala. My favorites are the biriyanis and fish curry. EDIT: 9/23/2022 I came across a review of this restaurant from a week ago that blew my mind and although this is not a forum for refuting reviews, I did not take to it and wanted to really clarify. I have been a customer of this restaurant for over 15 years so I know all the positives and negatives. The reviewer stated "This is a frozen Indian food has nothing to do with the taste or look, lots of sauce with perfect cube cut chicken thought was something else and probably is it’s a shame they make this kind of Indian food even the bread I guarantee you it’s frozen. Never again waist of money" This restaurant does not deal with frozen food. The kitchen staff have been with the restaurant for many years and they guy that cuts the chicken has done it so many times that he has become a pro at it. That is why the pieces are even for the most part. I mean to use that to assume that it is frozen???? Also the reviewer does not explain anything about the taste of the food but considers dining here a waste of money because of a conjecture that the food is frozen? Anyway I was permitted to step into the kitchen by the owners and chef to take some pictures of some food preparation. I just want to be clear, there is no frozen food here. Call me biased for being a long time customer here but that is what I am..........a very satisfied customer and I always keep coming back. The pictures below show preparation of Makni Sauce, The paneer (white bag), being strained and prepared (it is a multi process preparation), and tandoori chicken. Please come in and try for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we were enveloped by the warm, inviting aroma of spices that promised an unforgettable dining experience. This Indian restaurant truly sets the bar high with its exquisite cuisine, each dish bursting with authentic flavors and meticulously prepared to perfection. The attention to detail in every aspect of their service is remarkable – from the beautifully presented plates to the knowledgeable staff who eagerly shared insights about the unique ingredients and preparation methods. The menu, rich with a variety of traditional dishes, also offered innovative fusions that intrigued our palates. We were particularly impressed by their signature biryani, which was a flavorful delight, perfectly cooked with tender, aromatic spices and meats. The naan bread, fresh from the tandoor, was the perfect accompaniment to their creamy, well-seasoned curries. Special accolades go to our server, Jove, whose enthusiasm and professionalism made our evening even more enjoyable. Jove was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring our glasses were never empty and our preferences were catered to with a smile. His recommendations were spot-on, enhancing our dining experience with dishes we would not have thought to try. In conclusion, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone craving a truly delectable Indian meal. Whether you're a fan of fiery spices or milder flavors, there's something here to satisfy every taste bud. The combination of delicious food, excellent service, and a cozy atmosphere makes it a perfect dining destination. Highly recommended for a culinary journey through the heart of India!

I was visiting Ogden and had a strong desire to get some Indian food. I’ve eaten at Sitara before, but it’s been probably 10 years. The food did not disappoint. It was fantastic! Very delicious and good quantities. We got Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken with garlic naan, and garlic cheese naan. I liked the Tikka Masala more than the butter, but my wife was opposite! I also wanted it spicier, but she said the medium was already too spicy for her. The thing I didn’t like, and the reason for 3 stars… I placed my order online at 4:45 PM, selecting 5:30 as my pick up time (the first available was 5:20 but I knew I couldn’t make it there by then). I arrived at 5:35, the worker that helped me took my name, went to the kitchen, was gone for a bit, came back and asked my name again, and went and washed tables. At 5:45 he came back to me and said they were finishing my naan. I finally received my food at 5:58. I was offered a beverage because of how long it was taking. I declined because I’d didn’t feel like that made up for wasting 25 minutes of my time. Because I ordered online, I also had to select a tip amount at payment time while ordering. Had I known that it was going to take 28 minutes longer than what I requested, I wouldn’t have tipped 15%. I’d probably try another Indian restaurant before I returned.

I love Sitara and have ordered food there for more than four years. One day fairly recently I placed an order for delivery and once I Opened it to eat it, I realized that the order was wrong and was not at all appealing. I called them back to complain and they came back to refund my money but would not replace my order.

So, I decide to give them another shot and placed an order for carry-out. When I arrived I said I was there to pick up my order and paid for it. A woman walked out with my food, saw who I was and refused service to me. She approached me and said “we will not serve you” but did not elaborate - I was kinda stunned and confused and had to ask for my money back.

A minute later I re-entered the restaurant with my camera rolling to get some sort of record of what had just happened and was forcefully pushed out the door (before I had even opened it completely) by a man who said “we don’t serve Arabs” - I asked him to keep his hands off of me but he kept at it (this is all on camera, by the way, which was shown to the police later on when this story gets much worse)

I leave to go back to work and after work return home. I am having a few friends over for a relaxing night smoking some hookah. Next thing we know this car pulls up in our driveway and six or so guys get out of a car (including the son of the owner of Sitara) and began a fight with me. They smashes the hookah (which was brand new, by the way) and began attacking us by throwing beer bottles, etc.

This chaos caused my dog to run away, for the record. We found him eventually, but still..

So my roommate goes out looks for the dog and apparently one of these guys has stayed behind and hidden in my backyard, once my roommate was gone he came out from the backyard and threw a retaining wall stone at me.

Naturally I had to get the police involved, with CSI photographing the damage done to my property and all of my injuries. I also noticed that my wallet, watch and cell phone was missing after they had left.

Roughly 10 minutes after the police left my house, that same group of people (plus an extra couple of people) showed up AGAIN - I walked outside and told them I had already called the police again and that they were on their way back at which point they hopped in their car and took off.

The police are actively working the case and say they will put a detective on it. I will be seeking retribution from Sitara through all legal means possible.

So in closing, I could not recommend Sitara strongly enough if your goal is be physically assaulted and followed back home to have your property destroyed, make your dog run away, and leave you terrified in your own home, all because you wanted to...

Do not trust all these 4 or 5 star "local guide" reviews. I ran into a couple of those phone-wielding whitebread types at the restaurant and they were giving the food (of course Chicken Tikka Masala) rave reviews to their table. It's as if because Indian food is a bit more hard to come by in Utah that this place is the first place many people try in that cuisine style, which is both beautiful and tragic. In all honesty: it's sub par Indian food, "Americanized" in the worst way you can think of - they strip all the complexity of spices completely out of the food so it's got hints of the original, but so much less aromatic and spicy than the real deal, making it "gentler" to the western taste. Scroll through the reviews and see how many of them say it's not "spicy". It's not only not "spicy" as in heat, it's not "spicy" as in it is completely without Spice, which is the backbone of Indian cuisine. In my opinion the sauce is bought in bulk either bagged or frozen. You will notice a complete lack of aromatics in the air while in there even though no matter where you sit you are about 15 feet from the kitchen. This is because they aren't directly cooking the spices into the food in that kitchen. I would normally skip the buffet, but I was there on family outing: it's cheap at $9.99 for the dinner buffet and $8.99 for the lunch buffet. Poor to mediocre amount of choices, no dessert options, and they did not have enough Naan for truly small amount of people this place can seat. The naan was also a complete mystery to me. It's as if it could've been made in house, but they made it as thin as a tortilla to the point it was almost like a cracker you just crunch up and put on top of your meal; it was essentially useless as naan functions to scoop and grab. As far as service, it was okay at best. When asked what the dish was, the waitress had no clue, albeit she seemed older and crankier but new to the work. I would not recommend. The only reason I'm giving it a 2 star is because of the price. To actually satisfy your Indian food cravings try one of the Taste of India spots (Layton, Logan), order spicy, and pay more but be at least somewhat satisfied in the quality. It may be some kind of chain, but at least it's not...

This review is a response to the one posted by Abdullah saad.

Like he said 3-4 weeks ago, he ordered delivery and called back and complained about the food and asked for a refund, we told him we would come get the food back, after that in a duration of 15 mins he called 4 times, all first 3 times asking where was the driver and why hasn't he picked up the food yet, the 4th time he called, i told him to quit calling so many times, its rush hour and if i said the driver is on the way, he will be there soon, to which he responded saying in his exact words, "Bih who do you think you are talking to like that, you fukd up my order bih..." and just went off on me verbally abusing me, I put his call on speaker and showed it the owner, we decided we won't be serving him anymore. On Saturday, when i recognized him, i politely told him we are not giving him any service. He went to the back and told the manager, "I'm gonna sit in my car, you are gonna bring me my food and i won't make a scene or cause trouble for her" The manager told him he had to leave very politely and thats when he left, came right back with the camera rolling screaming in front of the customers, "these nigrs wont serve me cuz i complained" and cussing so much, the manager did have to get him out the door and they had a little altercation outside when he tried to put him in headlock saying, "i will beat you up nigr" he left after that and we went back to work, went straight home after that, everything he said after that about the assault from 7-10 people is completely fabricated, if we knew that many people willing to do that, i'm sure we make the smarter decision of hiring them instead and providing better customer service. The good thing is that the customers present at the moment saw what happened, we didn't make any racial slurs about not serving any specific race. I'm also pretty sure he edited out the beginning of the video of him yelling "these nig**rs wont serve me...".

At last, I would totally recommend this place for some great, inexpensive, authentic...
